But instead of the usual Spanish serves, Blanchette is a French bistro with small plates centred around classics of salmon with duck, puy lentils and herbs; ox cheeks bourguignon with ventrèche; and artichokes with potato and reblochon gratin, to name a few. French wines feature on a 35-strong bin list alongside organic cider options. Plus, Blanchette has been mentored by the Salt Yard Group (Salt Yard, Dehesa, Opera Tavern and Ember Yard) – so you can expect good things. Whisky Mist just got a little sister, Rusty Nail. Opening this weekend, the intimate club (80 covers) may be small but it's anything but low key. The theme (it is Nick House's latest baby, after all) is a hedonistic salon – think candles, distressed wallpaper, and old whisky barrels contrasted against neon light and contemporary art. The music and the drinks are a curated boutique selection of top DJs and super premium whiskys, alongside what we're guessing are the best Rusty Nails in town. Expect a heady dose of pescatarian junk food such as salmon doners and crab bhajis alongside the old faithfuls: skate wings, prawn pasties and yes, scallop hot dogs. Drinks wise, think white wine sangria, artisan London-brewed beer and hard gin cocktails à la the Dirty Filthy Anchovy Martini. We're always happy to hear about new cocktail spots. Dalston's latest, The Shrubbery, is hidden behind The Russet café at Hackney Downs Studios and mixes all of its cocktails from home made, sustainably sourced ingredients – think fresh, herb-infused drinks full of shrubs (a.k.a. a mix of vinegar, sugar, herbs, spices and fruits). Expect seasonal juices and organic elixirs with fresh, raw and Brit sourced ingredients, all made using a hydraulic press process. Here, it may be all about skinny juices and smoothies – lemon, ginger and wildflower honey concoctions and super green fennel, squash, lettuce, apple and wild greens – but we say grab a juice, then a table at Hoi Polloi and brunch the day away. It may cold and wet but we're ready to barbeque. After their successful residency last July, Burnt Enz and E5 Bakehouse are back with their four tonne, dual cavity, wood-burning machine. Taking place in London Fields, under railway arch 395, expect a weekend full of live music, a fully stocked bar and BBQ eats courtesy of Dave Pynt.
