DESIGNS OF THE YEAR |

DRINK:
100 MARTINI BAR |
Design junkies, this one's for you. The Design Museum is holding their annual presentation of the year's most cutting-edge concepts in architecture, furniture, fashion, products, and more. The exhibition features everything from a floating school in a Nigerian lagoon to Kate Moss's fave app and friendly lamp posts that send you texts, with projects by Zaha Hadid, David Chipperfield and Miuccia Prada shown alongside those by startups. |
Martinis have gotten a lot more complex than just shaken, not stirred. Sipsmith is popping up in Soho with a 100 Martini Bar to showcase the classic drink in (you guessed it) 100 innovative iterations. Taking over the oak-panelled apartment at Kettner's, the pop up bar will serve up variations including the Millionaire Martini (topped with champagne) and the 1888 Martini (featuring a dash of absinthe). Cheers. |

GENERATOR LONDON RE-LAUNCH |
#UJoutandabout
A hostel party may not be our usual stomping ground, but when it involves live music by NTS Radio, Tacos by F.A.T by Freddie, and, erm, Mark Francis – we can't help but have a bit of #genlove. And love we did. From the good tunes, music and food to shaking it on the dancefloor – Thursday night was fun – Friday morning, not so. |

TACO WARS AFTER PARTY |
PARTY:
'I DO!' WITH HORSE MEAT DISCO |
Taco Wars are back, with last year's winner Luardos defending their title against a field of a field of competitors including Breddos Tacos, B.O.B's Lobster and Rita's at Hawker House. If you missed out on tickets to the Mexican standoff (they sold out in 24 hours), head to the after party from 6pm. Tacos will be on offer alongside a Jose Cuervo tequila bar and Hawker House regulars Yum Bun, Street Vin and more, with 1500 tix available at the door. It's Hawker House's last hurrah this weekend, too, so get down there for an epic send off. |
Severino Panzetta of Horse Meat Disco is throwing a bash to celebrate the legalization of gay marriage in the UK (legal today-huzzah!), taking over The South Place Hotel. Expect Panzetta and South Place resident DJ Teamy on the decks, rainbow décor (of course) and plenty of bubbles and bespoke cocktails to mark the occasion. |

SKATEPARK AT SELFRIDGES |
Céline has finally thrown open the doors to its London flagship. Located on Mount Street (soon to be home to Christopher Kane and Roksanda Ilincic boutiques), the store is a minimalist haven, all marble tiles and resin screens. Philophiles will be thrilled with the wares: Trapeze bags, Skate slip ons and a plentiful supply of understated, chic ready to wear. Enter at your own risk…you'll probably want everything. |
You know we love a bit of skate action. Over at the Old Selfridges Hotel, London's yellow department store has launched the HTC One Skatepark. That's an 18,500-square-foot bespoke, indoor skatepark (London's largest). There will be HTC One handsets at the ready to record your kick flips, ollies and more. Fun! |

In a Sentence |
Gastronomy hits Dalston |
Location |
Adding to the Dalston/Haggerston culinary circuit, Mayfields neighbours firm-favourites Lardo, L'Entrepôt and Steve Parle's soon-to-open restaurant, meaning Shoreditch better watch out. |
Vibe |
Sociable, relaxed and filled with young trendy E8'ers. We loved the neighbourly vibe: service is friendly, tables are full and passers-by stop for chats. This may feel like a 'local', but food wise it's a destination. |
Flavours |
Here it’s all about mixing unexpected flavours to produce slightly experimental dishes (not normally seen in this neck of the woods). And with head chef Matthew Young (Dock Kitchen and Wapping Project) in charge, it was a slam dunk. From the starters of brawn with broad beans and the cured duck ham (a UJ first) to the sharing plates of lemon sole and licorice (which will divide opinions) and the turbot with almond sauce, Young has created some serious signature dishes. And it wouldn’t be an E8 restaurant without some trendy Monk’s Beard (seasoned with garlic, peas, lentils and egg) and beetroot (served with pork, onion and rhubarb) – both were fantastic. The desserts of chocolate mousse and milk sorbet may seem no-frills at first but the Asian flavours of kaffir lime and ginger granita knocked it out of the #normcore (when in Dalston…) park. |
Décor |
Think Scandi-cool. White walls and floor tiles, a pine feature wall and open kitchen. End of story. |
Upshot |
Normal menu aside, the Monday night supper clubs will be worthy of its own reviews. From the upcoming Spring Fish Supper to the Puglian Feasts, we're expecting good things. |
