Yes, we know it's officially London Wine Week, but truth be told, we just really like a good drop (did you catch us sabraging with Winechap?), so we've dedicated our weekend guide to the grape, from a new wine spot in Clapton and a new generation Gordon's Wine Bar (well, sort of), to some talks, tastings and a car boot sale. |

Diaries out: On June 11, we're hosting an Ibiza party in London. Head West to Paradise by Way of Kensal Green and you'll find us shaking to tunes by Becky Tong and Benjamin Cain fuelled by Balearic-inspired cocktails and Med canapés. Plus, did we mention the glass-covered terrace? |

DRINK:

EAT:
VERDEN |
We're starting the weekend with some stiff drinks at the newly re-opened 184 Hackney Road. From the makers and shakers of last year's pop up bar Mezcaleria Quiquiriqui alongside Stagg and Barber, the rebranded bar in the subterranean basement of The Golden Grill (yes, the kebab shop) will be extending their offering to include beer, liquor and cider. And if you need a break from the boozing, we recommend the falafel kebab from upstairs (best enjoyed, of course, with a five-drink minimum). |
Now onto the wine picks. Signaling the start of Clapton comes wine bar and delicatessen Verden. A simple concept of wine, cured meat, and cheese is their USP, and it ticks all the trend boxes. The 60-seat wine bar (in a former public house) will serve a changing selection of charcuterie and cheese cultivated in an on-site maturing room for a 'create your own' tasting board. Plus, there'll be a daily changing seasonal dinner menu, brunch on weekends and artisan brews – tick, tick, and tick. |

Field Day |
We're kicking off our festival season with a weekend at #redstripefieldday. Our hit list includes Charlie and Daniel Avery (UJ loves a sibling combo) on Saturday, and NTS radio host Nathan Gregory Wilkins alongside Ben Rymer and Pulp's Steve Mackey on Sunday. In between we'll be snacking on slices from Voodoo Ray's ( yes, they have a mobile van) and getting our chilli back fix from Street Feast. And if you still can't find us, check the Red Stripe Bandstand area. Until then, it's fingers crossed for sunshine. |

LONDON WINE SESSIONS |
Old favourite Gordon's Wine Bar have extended their reach further down Villiers Street. This time they've left the cavernous wine caves for an all day dining room – but they're still keeping it within the family tree. Headed by a younger generation of Gordons, expect Sophie Gordon heading up the kitchen, her sister Rose on wine, and their father Tom in charge of décor. Here the menu is all about informal, simple dishes (think avocado on toast, steak and chips, and truffled egg and soldiers). Once the sun has set the takeaway section of the restaurant turns into a bar, but unlike their alma mater down the road, cocktails will be served. |
The now annual London Wine Sessions are back. And just as last year, the schedule is packed with tastings, talks, and DJ sets. They've got wino Fiona Beckett (Guardian wine columnist) starting the day off with 'The Basics', followed by a timetable of biodynamic and wine critiquing. Our top picks: 'The Unlovables' (blind tastings of underdog vinos by Sager + Wilde, Vinoteca and Lyle's) and 'Rad Food' (six wines paired with six dishes by Mayfields and Skye Gyngell). And after 6pm, Daniel Willis (of Clove Club) will be taking over the DJ decks. |

SWEET NOTHING |

We'd never advocate saying no to a sweet treat (or two), but when a book comes out dishing out some pretty good substitute recipes and expert tips, we say, let's give it a try. Plus, it's a nice looking book for the coffee table. |

WATCH:
ADVANCED STYLE |
And now for Wine Week's closing party, which, naturally, involves wine darling du jour Ruth Spivey (of Street Vin) and her Wine Car Boot. For those not up to speed, Wine Car Boot assembles London's best independent wine shops (17 this year) and challenges us folks to 'taste our way out of the supermarket' by selling great wines at wholesale prices. This year, the cars will be parked in Kings Cross, West Handyside Canopy, and will include sellers such as Borough Wines, Planet of the Grapes, Vinoteca, and Newcomer Wines. A £10 ticket includes your entrance and five free tastes to try, buy, taste and drink. London Wine Week, done! |
Finish the day with some sartorial inspiration from the 60+ generation. If you're au fait with the Advanced Style blog by Ari Seth Cohen, you'll know all about the namesake documentary, which follows seven New York women whose passion for fashion has only grown with age. Expect eccentric, wonderfully dressed personalities, and an inspiring Sunday evening watch. Move over Cara, there are some old girls in town. |
