For those not two-wheeling in your birthday suits or watching a soccer match, don't worry, we've got some alternatives. Starting with a beach via the Thames, followed by yet another Clapton opening, we also have a new rooftop, an old rooftop, and a summer fayre. For some snacks in-between – it's all about pineapples and doughnuts.

ALFRESCO:
LE PONT PLAGE
  EAT:
YARD SALE PIZZA

A fake beach on the Thames may not be ideal, but when it includes a ceviche bar, buckets of prawns and crabs, and fresh and boozy cocktails we say slap on that SPF because Le Pont de la Tour has set up a beach on their Thames-side terrace, aka Le Pont Plage.  Come for the beach-inspired bar menu – crab and crevette buckets and shrimp flambéed au Pastis – or the C-Bar, which serves Tanqueray-spritzed ceviche and fresh sashimi, all prepared on the spot. Points for the deck chairs.   So it goes on. The latest Clapton opening comes in the form of an informal pizzeria, Yard Sale Pizza. Abandoning its pop up status for bricks 'n' mortar, expect a paired back menu of just five pizzas topped with some unique ingredients: purple broccoli (The PSB) and fresh raw tuna and an anchovy and caper paste (That Tuna One). Plus, there will be seasonal specials, as well as homemade shakes and ice creams.

SHOP:
MONOCLE SUMMER FAYRE
  VISIT:
HAM YARD HOTEL

After its successful 2013 county fayre, lifestyle magazine Monocle is back hosting its annual summer market, but circa 2014, it's all about the sea-faring theme. Expect the maritime market to be decked out in Breton stripes and sails. And just as the previous years, expect an international mix of stalls such as: Gestalten (Berlin), The White Briefs (Sweden) and Underscore (Singapore). Plus, let's not forget the petting zoo and Monocle tombola.   The highly anticipated Ham Yard Hotel has finally opened up in Soho. Part of the 'hotel scene', meaning you can expect the works, and then some. From an on-site theatre, bowling alley and library to the restaurant and bar, this hotel was built for hanging, but, if you must sleep, the 91 rooms and 24 apartments will serve you well. And the pièce de résistance? A roof garden that overlooks the Soho skyline.

EAT:
ST JOHN BAKERY ROOMS
  PARTY:
PINEAPPLE PARTY

Music to our ears: one of our favourite bakeries (we just can't resist the custard doughnuts) has expanded to Maltby Street Market and this time it's bigger. Opening this weekend, the latest St John will seat 50 and serve both breakfast and lunch. Although a daily changing menu, expect the main star breads, cakes, madeleines, and, of course, the famous doughnuts from Druid street to make the move. And there's a pretty good wine list…new brunch spot, sorted.   Summer means three things – sunshine, rooftops, and pineapples, so good news we're ending our weekend with all three. Head to Dalston Roof Park for a sunshiney Pineapple Party that includes tunes courtesy of N.A.I.V.E, Lapo and Simon (of Is Tropical), food via Merci Marie (beer pancakes, bone marrow burgers and smoked haddock cake) and well, pineapples. And if the party vibes take control, we hear there'll be face painting and er, sequin jackets…

Wholesome and hearty country cookin’

In a sentence
We know it’s not exactly the new kid on the block, but on a hot day, it’s the only kid packing a shandy menu.

Location
In the heart of Fitzrovia on Charlotte Street. A short stroll from Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road stations.

Vibe
Casual, friendly and charming. This feels very much like a neighbourhood or after-work hang out spot. The no-bookings policy – although not for everyone – ensures a constant buzz in the small 'barn' as customers mingle, shandy in hand.

Flavours
A different kettle of fish to high-end sibling Dabbous. Here, the modest menu is divided into seven easy-to-navigate sections: pig, cow, lamb, chicken, vegetables & sides and pudding. But don't judge the book by its cover. We started with the standout fried chicken — perfectly marinated with smoked paprika, garlic and lemon. Then it was onto the sausage roll and grilled lamb, both simple but excellent. We weren't sold on the bubble and squeak (served with black pudding, apple chutney and a fried egg), but we still made a hearty dent in it. Drinks-wise, the extensive shandy and hard shake list was a highlight – but our tip — save the shakes for dessert.

Décor
Think Kansas circa 1939 – reclaimed wood, exposed timber panels, and farmer themed uniforms. The only thing missing was Toto – but we liked it. It's fun, playful and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Upshot
Did we mention the shandy menu?
