Yes we know, Glastonbury and Wimbledon are the main star events, but for those sticking to London town, fear not, we’ve got a host of must-dos (and some anti-Glasto dos). Starting with Woodstock, followed by a tequila party and ending with a good ol’ Cuban sandwich. In between, we’ve got classic French food, an absinthe fountain and a picnic. Enjoy!

PARTY:
Paris Texas Not Glasto Party |
If like us you’ve failed to get to Glasto tickets this weekend (boo!) but still want to partake in some festival vibes, get yourself to Forge & Co. The Shoreditch space is hosting an exhibition of never-before-seen Woodstock photography. Taken by Rolling Stone’s first photographer Baron Wolman and capturing iconic shots of the revelry, the retrospective captures the zeitgeist of yesteryear. And if you like what you see, limited edition prints are for sale. |
Keeping to the ‘we’re not at Glastonbury’ theme, head to Casa Negra’s Playroom for a tequila fuelled Not Glasto Party. Paris Texas DJs Tim Stephens and Joe Frie will take over the decks with their brand of funk, disco, indie, and revamped classic beats. And, as always, we suggest, get there for dinner and stay for a dance. |

Kicking off the One Stage Season at the St James Theatre is Breeders. Written by Ben Ockrent and directed by Tamara Harvey; this new comedy offers a fresh take on family and procreation. Next up, award-winning writer Anya Reiss reimagines Anton Chekhov’s tragicomic masterpiece Uncle Vanya, in a stunning new version the 21st century. Finally, Blanche McIntyre directs Emlyn Williams’ critically acclaimed Accolade - this gripping thriller about sex, scandal and blackmail is as relevant now as when it first shocked audiences in 1950. |

BRUNCH:
Penkul & Banks |
DINNER:
Brasserie Gustave |
Our bucket list of London brunches has expanded with the opening of Penkul & Banks on Curtain Road. What used to be Beard to Tail has been transformed. Gone is the meat heavy menu, replaced by Asian-influenced sharing platters, morning coffee and pastries. Cocktails are the kind you’d expect from the brains behind Callooh Callay, but if you’re after a boozy brunch, it’s all about the bottomless Bloody Marys and Prosecco. |
The latest Brasserie to join the revival hits Chelsea via France. Brasserie Gustave (named after the man who built le Eiffel) will feature a traditional French menu centred on classics such as steak tartare, Escargots á la Bourguignonne and crêpe suzette. French wines will be featured on a vast 170-strong list alongside an extensive absinthe menu, and fountain! Plus, we hear there’s a bespoke roaming trolley of specialty dishes. Bon appetit! |

PICNIC:
BBQ Box set from Hill & Szrok and Cookshop |
SEE:
Chef |
Today we picnic. Hill & Szrok, the master butchers by day and restaurant by night, are at it again. Having just opened their multi-purpose space in March, they’ve hit us with another USP – barbeque boxes to go. Available as of this weekend, the set includes two disposable barbeques, fresh cuts of meat (sausages, sirloins, skewers), and bread rolls. Pick up a box, head to adjacent London Fields, and have a DIY al fresco feast. |
From barbeque boxes to food trucks. Hollywood’s latest film, Chef, has a plot after our own heart. Written, directed and starring Jon Favreau, alongside heavy hitters Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr, this comedy follows the story of a man who loses his job as a chef and sets up a food truck. Expect a sharp and witty script, oodles of charm, and a hankering for a Cuban sandwich. |
