EAT:
TOM’S KITCHEN ST KATHARINE DOCKS
  PARTY:
THE HYDRA 2014

Go for a waterside dinner at the latest Tom’s Kitchen at St Katharine Docks. High ceilings, leather banquettes, hanging lights and exposed surfaces – think brasserie meets industrial décor. Swap your usual Tom’s Kitchen menu staples (spicy crab cakes, truffled macaroni cheese…) for some new additions – the spatchcock baby chicken with barbecue sauce and haddock with cucumber salsa comes highly recommended. Our tip? Get a table by the window to make the most of the view.   Keep east for the first party of the weekend at The Hydra’s new electro home, Studio Spaces. Celebrating its permanent residence, the underground collective will be throwing a three-day knees up, starting tonight. Being hosted by Resident Advisor means you can expect some big hitters on the decks such as Carl Craig, Gilles Peterson and Matthew Herbert, to name just a few. And if you can’t make tonight, well there’s always tomorrow or Sunday…

For those unable to jet off for a med break during August, head to the Bombay Sapphire Ultimate Gin & Tonic Terrace at Rosewood London and order the Mediterranean Gin & Tonic Twist – think ginger, almond, and Sicilian lemon together with a rosemary sprig for that sun beaten flavor, because well, if the mountain won't come to Muhammad…

CHECK OUT:
THE WICK
  DRINK:
THE SHRUB AND SHUTTER

Kicking off The Wick’s Saturday series of food, live music and fashion festivities is Kubicle – the club kids known for throwing parties in unusual and pop up spaces (Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Burning Man …). Pray for some rays and head there in the afternoon to peruse the gourmet markets and fashion stalls before getting down to some dirty beats of cosmic disco, house and techno. And if it all gets a bit much, head over to the beach or jump in a hot-tub. As for us, we’ll be in the tiki bar.   Adding to Coldharbour Lane’s cocktail credentials (Seven, Three Eight Four …) comes The Shrub and Shutter. The new Brixton addition is focused on fresh, seasonal cocktails: think Pea Mary’s, Shortbread Millionaires (gin mixed with apricot shrub served with shortbread) and dill and cucumber shrub martinis. Food wise? Expect the same creative flair - from the dressed crab with samphire, olives, caviar and edible sand to the venison gravlax served with pistachio. And if summer makes another appearance, there's also a barbecue out back.

“pulled into the 21st century by award-laden wunderkind Anya Reiss”

A beautiful autumn day, rural England. A respected professor returns to his farmland estate with a new, beautiful, young wife. Their arrival turns the lives of the residents and his family upside down. Old wounds are reopened, passions are awakened threatening the lives of everyone involved.
Re-uniting the team behind the critically acclaimed, sell-out successes of The Seagull and Three Sisters, award-winning writer Anya Reiss reimagines this tragicomic masterpiece in a stunning new version for the 21st century.

EAT:
DIRTY BURGER
  PARTY:
RINSE FM AT NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL

For those needing to soak up the sins of last night, grab a bite at the latest Dirty Burger. Expect the same simple menu as the others: cheeseburger, Dirty bacon and the vegetarian Dirty cop-out. Alternatively, head there in the AM and choose from the menu of breakfast burgers: bacon and egg, sausage and egg or the full Dirty – complete with bottomless coffee and Dirty Doughnuts.   Fans of 106.8FM, good news: Rinse FM is taking over Rough But Sweet’s Soundsystem at Carnival. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the dance station will be doing what it does best, and showcasing London’s cutting-edge talent: from new-to-the-charts Jess Glynne and Rudimental’s vocalist Sinead Harnett to big names Chase & Status, Katy B, Eats Everything and Skream. All these names mean one thing – get there early.

Carnival Highlight: Paradise by Way of Kensal Green

Oh, Paradise by Way of Kensal Green, we can't seem to get enough of you (from hosting our UJ Ibiza party earlier this year, to your recovery sessions, and your new glass-covered terrace à la Space). We’re now heading back for our second carnival Deviation party and if it’s anything like last year’s, we’re excited. Expect DJs Benji B, Mark Ronson, Matt Jam Lamont and a host of others to keep the carnival vibes going. And if you can’t make Monday, hit up Paradise on Saturday for its pre-carnival Babylon Day Party or Eton Messy on Sunday for the carnival after-party. Either way, all roads lead to Paradise.
