A new concept

At UJHQ we love a good concept – Colette in Paris, Kødbyen in Copenhagen, DSM and Goodhood in London – we dig them all. So good news: we’ve noticed some cool new developments, this time in the gastronomic world.

First up, the ‘market’ concept. Street Feast, Model Market, Hawker House… we’ve done them all. But we've been hearing for some time now about Anthony Bourdain and his ‘World Market’. Expect a set-up in Lower Manhattan dedicated to global street food. Its USP? Authentic stall-to-table: cooks from hawker stalls all over the world will be flown in to ply their trade.

Next come the concept streets. In Paris, Cédric Naudon (self-proclaimed 'editor of places') has developed La Jeune Rue with the ambitious takeover of three streets in the northern Marais. Here, the concept is traditional producers with glossy interiors: think a Tom Dixon designed fishmonger and grocer, a patisserie and bakery à la Japanese designer Oki Sato, and a butcher’s shop designed by Florentine architect Michele De Lucchi, to name but a few. And, of course, there will be trendy restaurants, canteens, and bars aplenty.

Lastly, the concept that has us most excited, the ‘culinary amusement park’ by Albert and Ferran Adrià (of el Bulli), a.k.a. the 5.0 project (or BCN 5.0) in Barcelona, with five restaurants, each with their own culinary concept. You can already dine at Tickets (tapas bar), Bodega 1900 (vermutería), Pakta (the first Nikkei restaurant in Barcelona), while the last two: Hoja Santa (haute Mexican restaurant) and Enigma (a cocktail bar) will complete the circle come January 2015. And just like any good amusement park, there’ll be long lines, but it sounds like our kind of ride.
