This week we’ve got spas on our mind. Where can you go for some R&R, pick-me-ups and treatments without the tranquil seriousness and steep price tag? Surprisingly, it’s slim pickings. Until now. A new wave of sociable and affordable spas have been opening, meaning the capital is finally ripe with good, clean fun.

First up, we have Soho House’s latest Cheeky Parlour at the recently opened The Hoxton, Holborn. Delivering exactly what it says on the tin, it’s a beauty parlour with a bit of cheek. Here – like the Redchurch Street location – you can hang with friends, grab a bite, and have a glass, all while getting your hair and nails done. And it’s unisex friendly, too.
Next, Privet, the new Notting Hill unisex spa with a sense of humour. Opened by a burly builder, the fresh, “garden” concept runs throughout. Treatments are done by ‘expert gardeners’ in the Tool Sheds, R&R takes place in the Log Cabin and tans are sprayed in the Orangery. And, of course, there are the names: Bonsai Makeovers, Man-icures and Guns & Poses...
Lastly, the ‘spa playground’ a.k.a. Agua Bathhouse & Spa at the Mondrian London. The brand may be related to Agua Sanderson, but the style is completely different – think a buzzing bathhouse with a party atmosphere via Slumber Party treatments (facials and massages), Mud Party packages (champagne cocktails with mud treatments) and a sociable spa lounge. And, if you want, the menu also features chocolate fondue and a vintage sundae section.
And just like that, our Friday club nights have turned to spa sleepovers.
