This weekend we’re laying low. This means a movie night, lobster rolls, simple fried chicken and even a digital detox. Brunch wise – we’re hitting up a new Provençal brasserie in Exmouth Market, followed by an Indian Feast. Want some culture? Check out our November Culturist. |

WATCH:
INTERSTELLAR AT ELECTRIC CINEMA SHOREDITCH |
We know, we know, Lobster overkill. All we’re going to say is: from the guys behind Burger and Lobster comes their latest venture, Smack Deli. Here, the main order of the day is lobster rolls: happy endings (fish sauce, coriander and Japanese mayo), California (lettuce, tomato cucumber and avocado), and seven samurai (tempura lobster). Mains come by way of lobster chowder and courgette fries, and booze wise, it’s all about beer on tap and wine in tanks. |
After last week's doubleheader (Halloween/Day of the Dead) we’re hitting the snooze button on our partying and opting for a movie night at the shiny new Electric Shoreditch. And just like its Notting Hill sibling, expect leather armchairs, foot stools, cashmere blankets… you get the picture. This week it’s the release of Christopher Nolan’s enigmatic space odyssey, ‘Interstellar’. Because the plot has been kept on the DL, we only know three things: wormholes, space, and a dramatic race for survival. We’re there! |

Music. Art. No Wifi |
Now for some stress-free men’s style. E.Tautz, winners of the 2010 Menswear Designer at the British Fashion Awards, is opening a flagship store in north Mayfair. From designer Patrick Grant (also of Norton & Sons and The Great British Sewing Bee), the new shop is a two-storey medley of tailored and (previously unseen) made to measure suits, trousers and shirts. Grant’s mission statement: combine quality clothes and helpful service. Simples. |
PUT DOWN THE PHONE. Pick up a drink instead. Head to Hackney for a digital detox and remember a time before evenings were spent staring at screens. Entertainment comes in the form of live music and pre-smartphone-era tunes from the likes of Chief Joy Officer, Little Sister Blue and Ollie Foxx. There’ll also be interesting, interactive exhibitions such as real life selfies and retro tweeting. But you won’t be able to ‘gram any of it. |

Party in Puerto Rico! |
Last week we were lucky enough to be on the Bacardi Express from LGW to Puerto Rico for two days and three nights of Halloween mayhem. With three planes coming in for the event from LDN, LA and NYC, filled with people you actually want to hang out with (we were friendly junkies on this trip), a five star resort with all the trimmings, a festive spirit in the air, and artists like Tensnake (MARCO!) on the decks and Kendrick Lamar performing, the weekend was certainly worth the trip. Highlights included island hanging, island partying, rum and new friends. We love you guys! Thanks Bacardi and Eva the Diva, what a trip.

BRUNCH:
CafÉ Pistou |
EAT:
Moral Fox |
A new all day Provençal brasserie, and Exmouth Market’s latest addition, Café Pistou, ticks all the boxes. Alex Mackay (trained with Raymond Blanc) leads the menu of small plates, regional classics and, of course, brunch specials. We like the sound of the Crespéu - a tomato, basil, sticky onion and parmesan omelet, washed down with a “Bloody Marianne”: pepper-infused vodka, yellow cherry tomato juice, white balsamic vinegar, and homemade pistou (a Provençal cold sauce). #UJLoves. |
After a brief hiatus, fried chicken may be creeping back on the menu. Welcome Moral Fox, a new fried chicken joint just off Portobello. The menu is simple: fried chicken, spicy fried chicken and a fried chicken sandwich, with sides of coleslaw corn fries and sweet potato mash. Refreshments come by way of lemonades, daiquiris and, most excitingly, the ‘Brandy Milk Punch’. Winner winner chicken dinner. |

Ain’t no party like a house party |
Ahh house parties — living rooms, DIY dance floors and punch bowl cocktails — we love ‘em. And, thanks to a few new openings, we’re heading out but staying in, well, sort of. Starting with Notting Hill’s The Little Yellow Door, a new bar in a West London pad inviting us round for ‘home cooked’ meals and cocktails in the living room. Next, The Tanqueray Drawing Rooms are throwing intimate ‘soirees’ inside the mysterious Fitzroy Square townhouse. And as of next year, we’ll all be busting a move in eccentric Uncle Seymour’s living room aka Zetter Townhouse Marylebone. Sure, they’re a bit more twee than student house raves, but the drinks are better and there’s no tidying up.

In a Sentence
Think pink. A pastel project from Skye Gyngell.
Vibe/decor
The décor will divide opinions. Formal, calm and decidedly feminine. But in a world of industrial-meets brasserie interiors, we find its airy and pastel hues a welcome change. Expect nothing short of an unabashedly ‘ladies who lunch’ dining experience – soft shades, high ceilings, dimly lit pendant lights, and candy herringbone tiles. The décor may be airy-fairy but the vibe is not: hostesses in smocks (à la Martin Margiela HQ), hushed conversations, white linen and (very) steep prices. A good spot for a power brunch – on the company credit card.
Flavours
Simple, ‘ingredient-led’ cooking. Translation: nothing flashy or trendy – expect good quality and carefully prepared dishes. Case in point: our starters. The ravioli of onion squash and ricotta was simple but delicious, as was the grilled squid with chilli oil and white polenta. Mains wise it’s slightly less accessible - wild sea bass with girolles (mushrooms), chanterelles (again, mushrooms) and salmoriglio (a southern Italian herb and lemon sauce), but the spiced quail with sweet potato and chimichurri (Argentinian pesto) was standout. In between courses, order a G&T: gin mixed with a homemade ginger and lemongrass tonic. And don’t leave without trying the ice cream, crafted on site.
Upshot
If you don’t have the cash to splash, try the set lunch menu (three courses for £29.50). And, unlike most swanky restaurants, this one was built for sunlight.
