This weekend feels a bit ‘so wrong it’s right’. Starting with sandwiches for dinner before cosmos and ‘My Ties’ and finishing up with women as furniture. Plus, we’re going on the festive offensive, so if you’re planning a Thanksgiving meal, we’ve got you covered. Vacay wise, it’s all about Disneyland Paris. |

FRIDAY |

DINNER:
Tom Dixon Sandwich |
DRINK:
SIMMONS BAR FITZROVIA |
A sandwich for dinner – say what?! Not our usual Friday night choice, we agree, but these sarnies come with a bit of wow factor. Straight from the launch of the Mondrian, designer Tom Dixon has taken residency on the third floor of Harrods to take on the British butty. Think goat’s cheese, English pear and candied walnuts on ciabatta, or poached lobster, mango relish and thousand island dressing in a soft glazed roll… you get the idea. And as with any Tom Dixon project, it’s worth a trip for the décor alone. |
Mirrored skull disco balls, mismatched vintage lamps, grandma-style wallpaper – welcome Simmons Bar Fitzrovia. And just like with its Kings X and Camden siblings, expect a touch of the ‘so wrong it's right’ 90s tack (cosmos, Long Islands, ‘My Ties’), a funk and disco soundtrack, and a 3am license. Still not convinced? Two words: happy hour (4pm-9pm). See you there. |

SEE:
David Bowie is… |
EAT:
Pachamama |
Similar to sandwiches on a Friday night, a movie about an exhibition doesn’t usually cut it. Unless David Bowie is involved, that is. One part exhibition, one part biopic, expect every single facet of his career (songwriting processes, live performances, film, fashion, music videos, visual art) covered. Channel some underground glam-rock and watch it in The Vaults underneath Waterloo station… glitter and bodysuits optional. |
We’ve had Peruvian Japanese (Chotto Matte), now it’s onto Peruvian British via Pachamama. Expect traditional cuisine with British ingredients. Think signature ceviche sharers (wild Cornish sea bass, Devonshire sea trout…), along with hot dishes from the Josper oven or Robata grill (Dexter ribeye, whole Cornish lobster…). British herbs run through the drinks list and we’ve heard whispers of monthly changing pisco infusions. |

Here’s an app after our own heart. Uncover is a restaurant app for people (like us) on the go, but who like a bit of mealtime spontaneity. Based on your geo location, it handpicks a shortlist of restaurants, with free tables and, voila–, within seconds you’ve got a spot – sans frantic calls around town. Plus, we’re not talking shoddy hole-in-the-walls. Think hotspots, neighbourhood gems and Michelin-starred restaurants such as Gymkhana, Kitchen Table, Rotorino, Pied à Terre, Le Chalet, Tramshed, and Hawksmoor (to name but a few). Oh, and it’s free, so get downloading. LOVE THIS! |

SHOP:
Glassworks Dalston |
SEE:
Allen Jones at the RA |
One of our fashion faves, Glassworks, has opened in Dalston. And similar to its Shoreditch outpost, expect a pick ‘n’ mix of Jeffrey Campbell, Iro and Senso sitting alongside a myriad of own brand clothing and accessories. Design-led fashion without the price tag? Yes, please! |
Finish off your weekend with a culture fix. Allen Jones, the controversial pop-art pioneer (contemporary of Hockney et al.) is back in the public eye, thanks to this major retrospective exhibition. There’ll be vivid paintings, rarely viewed drawings, and the chance to make up your mind on the infamous ‘women as furniture’ sculptures. |

DISNEYLAND PARIS |
If UJ had a spirit animal, we’re pretty sure it would be Minnie Mouse – a bit of sass, fun loving, and seriously stylish (Miu Miu, Gucci, Louis Vuitton… she’s been dressed by all). And then there’s the rest of them – Mickey, Goofy, Donald and Daisy – we love ‘em, too. So when the chance to meet the gang at DISNEYLAND PARIS came our way, well, just try to stop us.
