We’re back with a meaty theme for the weekend (literally), starting with KFC and pork-fat cocktails on Friday, followed by pig's head croquettes on Saturday and finishing at the latest barbeque joint on Sunday. Aside from all things meat, we also have a welcome party on the cards and a bit of whiplash. Have fun! |

DINNER:
JinJuu |
|
DRINK:
46 & Mercy |
|
Start the weekend with some KFC - Korean Fried Chicken, that is. Jinjuu, the brainchild of Korean-American chef Judy Joo, has opened in Kingly Court, and we like the sound of it. Besides giving The Colonel some stiff competition, we’ll be going for the Ko-Mex (Korean carnitas fries topped with kimchee), Korean tacos, and pajeon (green onion) pancakes. And Soju cocktails & can’t forget the Soju. |
|
Now for a bar with a barbeque twist, head to HotBox and then downstairs to 46 & Mercy. A former street art gallery ('tis East London, after all), the menu is filled with craft beers,
strong experimental drinks with, of course, some meaty cocktails (vodka and pork fat, anyone?). Snacks also come by way of a barbeque with a selection of bite sized smoked meats available. |

PARTY:
Ministry of Sound |
|
There’s nothing like a dream team to get us excited. The Quality Chop House's Will Lander and Daniel Morgenthau, previously at 10 Greek Street, have teamed up for their first restaurant: Portland. Dine on mod-French dishes like charred brassicas with smoked egg emulsion, soy and truffle, pig's head croquettes with kimchee mayo, and the duo’s pièce de résistance, a wild game pithivier with black truffle and game sauce. |
|
After a three-week break, Ministry Of Sound is back to kick start 2015. Hosting their first Label Showcase with French future house DJ Tchami (currently in the UK charts for track Promesses), X-Press 2 (Ministry of Sound Radio), and the new solo residents Copy Paste Soul, expect an all night electro blow out. Time to party like it’s 2015. |

BRUNCH:
The Joint |

WATCH:
Whiplash |
|
The Joint has ventured to Marylebone and a larger, two story home. For those not up to speed, we’re talking about the Brixton Village Southern-inspired pop up: think barbeque meats, craft beer and cocktails. Oh, and of course their Short Rib Burger. Take that Maccy Ds. |
|
Make your way through your Golden Globes hit list, starting with Whiplash. Set in a New York Jazz Conservatory, the story details the destructive mentor/protégé relationship between a whimpering jazz drummer (Miles Teller) and his destructive teacher (J.K. Simmons). The story may not be revolutionary but the acting is, and Simmons has the Golden Globe to prove it. |

In a Sentence
An Ashkenazi inspired restaurant from an ex-head whammy of Ottolenghi in Notting Hill
Décor
An orange 60s mod plastic fantastic bubble. #UJLoves.
Flavours
Although their tagline says ‘Ashkenazi influenced’ don’t expect any Bourekas or Hamustas à la The Palomar and Ottolenghi. Think simple and seasonal instead. The roasted cauliflower with pomegranate and the grilled manouri with cherry tomatoes and sweet herbs were a nice combination of fresh, savoury and sweet. The plates are best shared, but if you want more hearty/individual offerings, let the price guide you – our favourite was the braised duck leg (cooked to perfection) with spiced red cabbage and quince.
Top Tip
Have a drink at the bar first. It was buzzing the night we dined, no doubt thanks to the after-work footfall: the building (Second Home) doubles as a workspace hub for ‘entrepeneurs and creatives’.
Highlight
The interior. The space is 60s perfection by Spanish architects Selgas Cano, the same architects in charge of this year’s Serpentine Pavilion.
