First weekend of February – let’s do this! This weekend we’re building up the momentum, starting with Japanese food and experiential cocktails on Friday, Saturday we welcome a big new addition on Golborne Road (and more Japanese food), and Sunday we hit the dance floor (finally!) with a Red Bull Party. Need a sunny escape? We’ve thrown in an idea for a beach flop. |

Classical music (and V Day) enthusiasts, take note. Throughout February, the London Philharmonic Orchestra is celebrating the work of the great Russian Romantic, Sergei Rachmaninoff, live at Royal Festival Hall. Regarded as some of the most romantic music of all time, Rachmaninoff’s deeply passionate and virtuosic music is the stuff of legend, and has captivated audiences for over a century. Today his music lives on in the concert hall and has inspired countless film makers, songwriters and even astronauts. |

DINNER:
Kurobuta Chelsea
DRINK:
The Cocktail Trading Company
Yay! Pop up Kurobuta Chelsea has found a permanent home, down the road. Aside from a larger space (90 covers, separate lounge, bar and private dining room), expect the same menu: BBQ pork belly in steamed buns, sashimi pizza and Yuzu tarts. And the same goes for the boozy refreshments: sake fizz, cocktails, alcoholic slushies and ice cold beer. |
We’re always happy to hear about new cocktail joints, especially when brought to you by a collective of award winning bartenders (Andy Mill, Elliot Ball and Olly Brading) from London Cocktail Club. And their new digs are all about experience-led cocktails. This means the menu is a ‘development board and ongoing experiment’ where feedback is welcomed and requests are encouraged. In other words – a changing menu. Try the Manila Hotel Mint Julep, made with cherries and mint, or a Violet Fizz with violet liquor and lemon sherbet before they’re gone. |

Ramen move over, our attention has shifted to your thicker cousin, Udon, thanks to new Japanese restaurant den. Based on the idea of ‘umami’, the restaurant serves up an udon-centric menu, as well as a variety of smaller plates ('tsumamis') – red wine stewed pork belly, crispy mackerel, miso-marinated grilled salmon and sizzling beef steak. Plus, it's got a great name attached to it – the head chef comes via Bone Daddies and Koya. |
The people behind Beach Blanket Babylon have opened up their latest venture on Golborne Road - West Thirty Six, a four floor grill house and cocktail lounge. Though we’re sure the food and drinks will be good, it’s really more the space we’re excited about: a labyrinth of rooms, lounge areas and two outdoor spaces with an open grill and bar. Welcome back, West London. |

EAT:
Sunday Roasts and Red Wine Roulette from Le Bun
PARTY:
RBMA presents Gilles Peterson
It seems to be all about gambling these days. We had our first pay-by-poker restaurant in Haggerston, Hawker House is doing whisky roulette and now Le Bun is chancing it with their red wine roulette. Head to the Three Compasses pub in Dalston (Le Bun’s HQ) for their take on a Sunday roast (Le Royale Roast) - slow and low roast brisket, Gruyere cauliflower cheese, onion rings and buttered kale before spinning the wheel for a bottle of red. The rules? Put down £15 and leave with either a good (£0-26), really good (£27-32), or top notch (£33-36) bottle. All in! |
Round off your weekend with a good ol’ Sunday knees-up via The Red Bull Music Academy which returns to The Old Queens Head - with Gilles Peterson in tow. Get there early (9pm) to warm up with the sounds of futuristic bass via wunderkind DJ Throwing Snow before getting down to the sounds of Gilles’ funk, disco, and house beats. Tickets are £1 – go! |

DO NOT DISTURB |
Conrad Maldives Rangali Island |
In a Sentence
The vacation you never knew you needed, but desperately did.
The Location
A direct flight from Gatwick to Malé is just 10 hours. One seaplane later and you’re smack dab in the Indian Ocean. We could get used to waking up like this.
The Facts
Make it through customs and head straight to the back of the airport where there are no doors, just seaplanes waiting to take people to their island of choice. If you’re not familiar with how the Maldives work, you choose where you want to stay via resort rather than island, as each resort is on its own island. And once you’re on the island, there’s really no getting off! But that’s the beauty of it here. No. Disturbances. Conrad Maldives is set over two islands...
