It’s all about food this weekend! Some steamed buns, pizza with a bit of disco, Lardo’s latest addition and Ben Spalding’s new menu will keep you full until Monday. Plus, we’ve got some must-try BBQ spots and a new tequila fun house. Culture-wise, it’s your last chance to catch the Sigmar Polke exhibition – get on it. See you on the flip side. |

It’s no secret; London’s love affair with the BBQ is still smoking hot. Here’s our pick of the top 5 restaurants to get your grill on:
1. Head to Som Saa at Climpson's Arch for salt roasted red prawns and kaffir lime G&Ts
2. Try Tomos Parry’s wood-fired take on Basque cuisine at Kitty Fisher’s
3. Bo Drake, another East Asian BBQ joint, joins the ranks
4. Dude food goes international at HotBox: think Wagyu beef brisket rolls and Chinese spiced duck pancakes
5. Smoking Goat. The one that started it all

THE CRUST CONDUCTOR
Another week, another izakaya. This weekend, head to new pop up Beer & Buns for a fix of Hirata buns. Filled with a choice of pork belly, chicken karaage, pulled duck or pumpkin katsu, order a selection with a side of Korean-style chicken wings and dig in. Round it off with a few yuzu margs, daiquiris and sake bombs, or keep it simple and stick to Japanese beers; they have the largest selection in the UK. Kanpai! |
There’s nothing like a bit of pizza and disco… on a double-decker bus. Add lashings of beer as well as a live DJ, and voilà, you have The Crust Conductor. The 1980s Leyland Titan bus-turned-pizzamobile has a wood-fired oven, a cocktail, beer and wine bar on the bottom deck and a sound system, 34 reclaimed seats (read: restaurant) and DJ booth on the top. And no, before you ask, Oyster cards are not accepted. |

DRINK:
El Patron
Darling of the pop up foodie scene Ben Spalding has moved into The Laundry Canteen & Bar for a one-month residency. Book a spot on Friday or Saturday for his signature tasting menus or go mid-week for the à la carte menu – expect dishes such as white crab lasagne, poached salmon with miso and mango and three-seaweed ramen. Roast fanatics should pop in for Sunday lunch – we’ve heard good things. |
Grab a table at El Patron, the new Mexican bar with all the essentials: tequila and cocktails. Come here for the usual suspects of tacos, burritos and quesadillas, and stay for the 60-strong tequila menu. Line up the shooters or order from the tequila-drenched cocktail menu – try Escobar’s Secret (with vanilla, lime apple, and ginger ale), a Mariachi (espresso) martini, or a Scorpion (with ginger beer and chipotle). Oh, and they have sharing cocktails, naturally. Hasta mañana, hangover. |

The Young Vic |

Following a hugely successful year (three Critics’ Circle theatre awards, two Evening Standard Awards and London Theatre of the Year 2015), the Young Vic announces its hotly anticipated new season tomorrow, Friday Feb 6. Last year a number of their shows sold out before they even opened, so book early to ensure you don’t miss out. |

EAT:
Lardo BebÈ

SEE:
ALIBIS: SIGMAR POLKE 1963 – 2010)
Top of the weekend at Lardo’s little sibling, Lardo bebé. Expect the same quality Italian fare as its alma mater (seasonal, locally sourced produce) but with a smaller, simpler menu. For brunch, try the sage and chilli eggs on toast, black anise pepperoni baked beans, and grape & oregano scacciata, washed down with spritzers and bloody marys. Alternatively, upgrade your Sunday takeaway with a wood-fired pizza from this bebé – because unlike her older sibling, she delivers. Oh yes! |
For your fill of ironic and experiential art, head to the Tate Modern’s Sigmar Polke exhibition before it closes. Described as one of the most influential artists of the post-war generation, his work was a reaction to art movements he encountered during his five-decade career – expect swipes at pop art, modern art, and everything in between. |
