March has greeted us with a host of new things and a few surprises (freak hail storms included). If you haven’t filled your calendar from our March Culturist, here are a few more to add to the mix. Have a burger at the now perma Bleecker St.Burger, a drink at new late-night haunt Dado54, lunch at Morada Brindisa Asador and hit the dance floor at LEAF. Plus, there are some boozy brunches to be had and a fashion exhibition to see.

FRIDAY

EAT:
BLEECKER ST. BURGER
  DRINK:
Dado54

The latest burger pop up turned bricks ’n’ mortar is long-time favourite Bleecker St.Burger. These are inspired by New York burgers, but with a few British twists – from the beef (pasture-fed beef from small farms in the UK) to the black pudding burger (Bleecker Black). Traditionalists should stick to the standard cheeseburgers (single, double and bacon) with a side of fries topped with blue cheese and hot wing sauce.   Farringdon has added a late-night drinks spot to its belt. Dado54 offers food throughout the day (smoothies, burgers, pan seared tuna…), stays open until 3am, makes boozy cocktails (classics and signatures), and has an underground club. Need to know more? It’s walking distance to Fabric – if you’re so inclined.

SATURDAY

EAT:
Morada Brindisa Asador
  PARTY:
Saturday at Tobacco Dock with Tale Of Us, Luciano and Sasha

Another outpost from tapas haven Brindisa, Morada Brindisa Asador will be serving up their brand of Spanish cuisine from a new site on Rupert Street. Here, it’s all about meats, fish and vegetables; grilled, roasted, stewed and braised. We especially like the sound of the roast suckling pig, served straight from the Josper oven. The flame-grilled salads sound good, too.   For those that missed our Culturist, here is one of our top picks. LEAF (London Electronic Arts Festival) kicks off this weekend. Buy a combo ticket for two days of performances, DJ sets, talks and workshops from the likes of DJ Harvey, Ram Records and Laura Jones. Our top pick: tonight’s live set at Tobacco Dock with Tale Of Us, Luciano and Sasha. See you on the DF!

Tasting shops

Tasting bars keep popping up on our radar. Last week, Milroy’s of Soho re-launched with a tasting bar in the shop and the soon-to-open Vinoteca King’s Cross has a wine shop and tasting space – but before that opens, we’re heading east to Brahms & Liszt, an off-license and tasting room courtesy of the folks behind Quiquiriqui and 184 Hackney Road. Not only is everything available to try-before-you-buy in the tasting room, but anything in the shop you fancy from the tableware to the artwork – is up for sale. Plus, there’s a ‘Fill-Your-Own-Station’ for wine. Be still, our beating hearts.

Brahms & Liszt, 10 Chatsworth Road, E5o LP, 11am-11pm. For more information email here

BRUNCH:
Friends of Ours
  SEE:
Lady Gaga x Gareth Pugh at the Design Museum

Another Antipodean café has hit London. This time it’s from friends Anthony Dyer and Man Wong. The menu, overseen by head chef Sebastian Harris, who cut his teeth at Fifteen under Jamie Oliver, features his take on the classics: think eggs benedict (with crab & crayfish), corn fritters (with kimchee and bacon) and posh cheese on toast (with blue cheese polenta and truffle oil).   That bin bag, designed by Gareth Pugh and worn by Lady Gaga, was added to the Design Museum's Women Fashion Power exhibition earlier this year. For those who haven’t checked it out, the exhibition features sartorial statements from leading ladies, from Margaret Thatcher and Vivienne Westwood to Princess Charlene of Monaco. The take home message: there’s all kinds of power dressing besides the pant suit.

In A Sentence
Japanese trash food in the heart of Soho.

Vibe and Decor
Wholeheartedly casual, this is a place for boozy catch-ups with friends – big groups are welcome thanks to the large booths, rock tunes blasts out à la Bone Daddies and prices are great. End the night in the bar downstairs, yuzu marg in hand.

Flavours
Japanese ‘drinking food’ is the concept here – think trash food with a Nippon twist, via a pizza oven. The cauliflower roasted in ponzu and miso was tangy and rich, potatoes drenched in Katsu curry sauce were moreish and the Korean fried wings basted with miso and chilli were a hit. We especially liked our heavier serve of beef hot stone rice: sticky (thanks to the sesame sauce and chilli), hot and filling – a good main dish to go with the ‘sharing plates’, which are more like sides. Refreshments are as playful as the food: think bottled cocktails of Ringo Stars (gin, sake, apple juice) and sake cherry gimlets (vodka, sake, and cherry syrup) but we say, stick to the sake. Cherry gimlets (vodka, sake, and cherry syrup) but we say, stick to the sake.

Top Tip
It’s no-bookings but the bar downstairs more than caters for this. Seats, tunes and stiff drinks means it works as a destination on its own.

Highlight
It’s right in the middle of Soho – a good spot to keep in mind for cheap and cheerful food and drinks.
