FRIDAY

DRINK:
The Woodstock Kushiyaki Bar
  Dinner:
The Culpeper

The izakaya trend continues with The Woodstock Kushiyaki Bar. By now you know the drill: go for a casual pit stop or a pre-party drink, order some grilled and fried skewers and try a few Japanese draft beers. If the mood strikes, move on to the sake and shochu.   Go to the newly opened dining room at The Culpeper in Spitalfields for a laid back Friday night dinner. Head chef Sandy Jarvis, formerly of Terroirs, takes charge of the seasonal menu: think raw chopped beef and rosemary, lamb chops with sage butter and crispy lamb breast with mint salad. We’ll be sticking around for some cocktails.

UJ RADAR: OYSTERS

Nuno Mendes’s Oyster & Champagne Cart. Photo credit Nicholas Kay.

Move over lobster, oysters have clammed into the limelight. We’ve mapped out our top picks for your fix, any time of day. For a daytime pick-me-up or pre-dinner shuck head to Nuno Mendes’s Oyster & Champagne Cart, parked in the courtyard of Chiltern Firehouse until 8.30pm. Go traditional and pair with champagne or mix it up with ice-cold vodka. No reservation necessary. For a happy-hour deal, hit up The Wright Brothers: oysters are £1 each between 3pm-6pm. Dinner-wise, we can’t wait to try the oysters at the raw bar at The Richmond, paired with negronis on tap. Lastly, for a lazy Sunday, try the Market Gourmet stand at the new Slow Food & Living Market at the Rosewood London.

WATCH:
Sweeney Todd
  PARTY:
Skream + Derrick Carter + Artwork + Tom Demac at XOYO

The Tooting Arts Club's acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd has transferred to the West End. If you haven’t booked a ticket, then we urge you to do so now (there are still some seats left). Originally staged in London’s oldest Pie Shop (Harrington Pie and Mash Shop), the space has been replicated on Shaftesbury Avenue – with pies and all. Hot pies, hot tickets, get in quick.   Fresh from Chicago, UJ fave and house don Derrick Carter is bringing his boompty boomp to XOYO, with Skream by his side. You’ll also find techno DJ Tom Demac upstairs all night. Not to be missed. Oh, and get there early. Last entry is at a spritely 11pm.
