Political anxiety, goodbyes (RIP Bill Cunningham), England VS Iceland… It has been quite the week! So this weekend, we’re taking it easy (especially after last weekend’s Pride and Glasto festivities) and enjoying life’s simple pleasures: live music, films, exhibitions and a no-frills steak dinner. Enjoy!

| Friday | | | | | | DRINK: | | DO: | Old St. Records | | Art Night | | Start the weekend off with some live music, cocktails and pizzas from the same guys behind record store-inspired venues, Venn St. Records and Northcote Records. Set across two floors, the 300-capacity live music venue will be churning out a heady mix of everything from soul, funk, jazz and rock to classic pop. But their real USP? You can purchase vinyls at the bar. Music to our ears.
| | It’s about time London got its own version of Nuit Blanche (the dusk ‘till dawn Parisian arty party). London’s version, Art Night 2016, will keep the capital up with performances, installations and films in central London locations. There’ll be jazz in a cathedral, a sound installation in the vacant Admiralty Arch and a mass exercise class at Somerset House. Oh, and a ballet-meets-workplace-injury-court-case on the Duke of York Steps…

| Saturday | | | | | | SEE: | | EAT: | David Hockney: 82 Portraits and One Still-life | | Flat Iron Shoreditch | | If you haven’t had your fill of art from the previous night, then head to the RA for David Hockney’s latest exhibition: 82 Portraits and 1 Still-life. Rediscovering portraiture, each of the 82 paintings – to be seen as one complete work– is the same size, capturing the sitter in the same chair, against the same blue background. Expect to see Celia Birtwell, Barry Humpries and Larry Gagosian in his signature thick brushstrokes and pops of colour.
| | Flat Iron have come full circle, from a pop up in Shoreditch to permanent sites in Soho and Covent Garden, and now, back to where they began: in Shoreditch. The new bricks and mortar site, like the others, has their signature affordable steak and cuts on the menu, custom-made furniture and light fittings (available to purchase) and it’s no-reservations (we know!). However, the big news: a huge custom-built spit roaster for some slow cooking meaty goodness.

| Sunday | | | | | | Watch: | | EAT: | Psycho with a live orchestra | | The 86 List Sunday Session | | Without a doubt, it was Bernard Herrmann’s purely instrumental score – screeching violins, terrifying crescendos, nagging ostinatos – that has made Hitchcock’s Psycho a longstanding nail biter. So do yourself a favour and see it screened at the Roundhouse with its score played live by one of London’s best string ensembles, the Orchestra of St Paul’s. Creepy, terrifying and oh, so real.
| | And finally, if you can muster up enough energy, head to The Eighty Six List’s last Sunday Session of the summer. For those not up to speed: The Eighty Six List is a hospitality network who have been throwing monthly Sunday Sessions aimed at showcasing new hospitality players. Think lots of food and lots of booze. This week, Canadian born chef Blair Hammond and London born bartender Matt Ottley will be in charge. We don’t know what to expect, but we’ve spied ‘beer in a bag’ on the menu…
