Top 5 places for low alcohol cocktails

Want to have a lunch with a bit of buzz? Here are our top 5 spots.

1. For some of the best cocktails, low boozers and mocktails in London, it has to be Dandelyan, with Ryan Chetiyawardana in charge of the botanical menu

2. For some serious fun, pull up a seat at 45 Jermyn St. and make your way through the menu of apéritif sodas, Rickies and ice cream floats

3. For the lighter side of afternoon drinking, try the ‘bridging’ menu at Hawksmoor Air Street

4. Looking for a fix of Aperol Spritz and dose of Vitamin D? Make your way to Bird of Smithfield’ rooftop Aperol Spritz Terrazza

5. Learn the 101s of the traditional Mediterranean aperitif and try the new vermouth cocktail menu at The Remedy

EAT:Party:
St John Bread and WineKrankbrother at Dance Tunnel

If, like us, you love a bit of bar dining, good news, St John Bread and Wine in Spitalfields has reopened, with brand new counter dining . The new area (where the kitchen was) doesn’t take reservations, so it’s just the tonic for the less-organised among you. Simply pull up a stool, enjoy some French wine and St John classics for a leisurely meal. Or simply pop in for an espresso and some freshly baked madeleines or doughnuts. Another one bites the dust: Dance Tunnel is closing its doors in August meaning this will be last Tunnel Vision party with Krankbrother. Playing a guaranteed sweat-soaked five-hour set, the brothers will be on decks spinning their brand of techno from 10pm-3am. Finish the night off with a Giorgio Moroder pizza slice from Voodoo Rays upstairs. Perfect.

Georgia O’Keeffe is an American icon, trailblazing artist and fundamentally important to the history of modern art. Best known for her paintings of magnified flowers, animal skulls, and New Mexico desert landscapes, the exhibition brings together over 100 of her most important works from six decades of her career. With no works by O’Keeffe in UK public collections, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for audiences outside the US to view her vast body of work. Book tickets now.

EAT:PARTY:
Bao FitzroviaBrilliant Corners’ Backstage

If you’re still queuing at Bao in Soho, good news: their second site in Fitzrovia has opened. Aside from the classics, the new site will focus on fish and rice dishes (such as fried fish baos and congees). As for us, we’ll be joining the queue (yes, no reservations!) for the BAO milkshakes: think ‘choc & toasted rice’ and ‘condensed milk’. One of our favourite Dalston bars, Brilliant Corners, will be heading south this weekend, popping up at Sunfall Festival in the form of ‘Brilliant Corners Backstage’. Basically, it’s the bar, in pop up form. We’re told to expect their audiophile sound system, with the don of recorded collectors playing their curated handpicked selection of vinyls, an intimate dance floor and, of course, Japanese food.

EAT:SEE:
Souljazz at the Jazz CafeDaydreaming with Stanley Kubrick

After last week’s live orchestra (to Psycho), we’re amped for some more live orchestral tunes. So, this Sunday we’ll be heading to the newly renovated The Jazz Café for a blasting by the Souljazz Orchestra. Expect nothing short of their signature brand of jazz, Afro, Latin and Caribbean mashups, with horns, keyboards and an “arsenal of earthquaking percussion”. A cure for the Sunday blues, surely. If you’re a fan of Stanley Kubrick, then you’ll love the surreal homage to the cult director at Somerset House. Over 50 works by artists, filmmakers and musicians, including Anish Kapoor, Gavin Turk and Sarah Lucas make up the haunting exhibition. Expect to pass through the carpeted corridor of The Overlook Hotel, lose yourself in a maze of mirrors and listen to a choir performing the chilling composition from The Shining. And that’s just the start. There are short films to watch, scents to sniff, and immersive video art to take in.
