| Stay and shop | | | | Hotels haven’t just been a place to rest your head for awhile now. From bars to restaurants and workspaces, they’ve become a one-stop shop. Now, they are turning into living, breathing retail spaces, too, thanks to a merging of traditional retailers and hoteliers bucking traditional advertising for immersive ‘showrooms’.
| | We first noticed the trend earlier this year when Soho House introduced Soho Home – a chance to bring ‘the house home’. From its mid-century European pieces and local antiques to its custom made glasses and limited edition art, everything is available to buy online.
Then, as part of its campaign, ‘Story of Things’, fashion brand Scotch & Soda unveiled an apartment, available to rent on Airbnb. Renters, when booking the apartment on Airbnb, submitted their clothing sizes and a wardrobe of Scotch & Soda clothing was provided and available to buy.
Next, taking the try-before-you-buy model one step further, West Elm has announced it will be opening up a line of boutique hotels across America (Detroit, Minneapolis, Savannah, Charlotte and Indianapolis) in collaboration with hospitality company DDK. With interiors by West Elm, guests can immerse themselves with the brand and purchase items from the hotel room (aka the West Elm collection) at checkout.
