We’re packing it in this weekend, starting with a new ‘mindful’ café on Friday, followed by drinks at a new Hackney Central cocktail bar (tomato cosmos, anyone?). Saturday is all about meats and beats, with dinner on a cruise ship. Sunday is just plain vulgar. Enjoy.

EAT:DRINK:
Counter kitchenEvery Cloud

Healthy Asian-inspired breakfast and lunch is the principle behind Counter Kitchen, headed by Matt Edwards, formerly of Quo Vadis and Fino. For breakfast choose from healthy pots of spiced apple, homemade granola or seasonal fruits or toast with a range of toppings (such as homemade peanut and almond butter, or tomatoes with coconut butter). The lunch menu gets interesting with inventive soups, salads and hearty bowls, all focused on raw and nutritious ingredients – look out for the list of bio wines, too. Fans of nomadic bartending group, The Manhattan Project, will be happy to know they’ve finally found a home. Located in Hackney Central, come here if you like your drinks strong and your lighting low. We’ll be starting with the salted peanut cuba libre, before trying the tomato cosmopolitan and finishing with a Champagne daiquiri. Classic cocktails with a twist. We like.

Michael Moore in Trumpland

Michael Moore has once again thrown his hat into the political ring with a surprise documentary, Trumpland – ‘the film Ohio Republicans tried to shut down’. Initially previewed in New York earlier this week, it’s now showing in both LA and NY – so if you’re in either ‘hood, make this a must see.

EAT:PARTY:
London Shell Co.Mick’s Garage

For their first restaurant, London Shell Co. have chosen to float down Regents Canal on a wide beam canal boat, serving their usual quality seafood: think oysters, home cured Scottish salmon and smoked cod’s roe, all washed down with a concise list of cocktails, with all spirits locally sourced from within the M25. If it’s a day party you’re after, head to Mick’s Garage in Hackney Wick. Having thrown outdoor bangers all summer, they’re moving things inside for the cooler months, but don’t worry it’s business as usual. House and disco tunes will blast and sustenance in-between will be from the SHUK SHUK (the meat smoking food shack run by Berber & Q). Meat and beats, what else is there?

Hot days, long nights, and great food: we’ve always been big fans of Madrid. For our Madrid Destination Guide, in partnership with ME by Meliá Hotels, we enlisted the help of Mario Ximenez, fashion editor and general man about town, to get the inside track to the city. From the best restaurants in town and best club nights to hit up to where to shop, he’s left no stone unturned. Of course, we’ve also highlighted our favourite bits of ME Madrid (roof! suites!), to hopefully tempt you to book a stay. Plus, we’ve got inside tips from the cool kids of Madrid, including top bloggers and editors. Salud!

DO:DO:
Wyld Tea at DandelyanThe Vulgar at the Barbican

If you’re a bit bored of the usual afternoon tea offerings (guilty!), the new Wyld Tea at Dandelyan could be just the tonic. Recently crowned 3rd best bar in the world, the new 70s-inspired afternoon tea rifts on the classics: think elderflower compressed cucumber and burnt herb cream sandwiches, rocket, ham hock and piccalilli vegetable butter sandwiches and welsh rarebit fingers. Oh, and forget the fizz, and instead opt for botanical cocktails. Vetement tracksuits, Moschino ‘McDonald’s Happy Meals’, furry pool slides… what is fashion’s obsession with bad taste? That is the question being explored at The Barbican’s latest exhibition ‘The Vulgar’. Showcasing over 120 objects, ranging from historical costumes to couture and ready-to-wear looks, from the renaissance through to contemporary design, expect to spot everything from John Galliano’s 90s couture and Vivienne Westwood’s tits top to Andy Warhol’s Souper Dress.
