| The Week In Eats | | | | Forget Humpday and Friyay, at UJ we think about our week in terms of food. We’ve noticed an abundance of monthly supper clubs around the capital (Nuno Mendes’ Global Suppers, Stevie Parle’s FEASTS, Pig & Butcher’s meaty showcases), but some of our favourite spots are making their clubs a weekly occurrence.
| | If there’s one way to beat the Monday blues, it’s with booze. And we’ve got two different options for you. Go all out at Shackfuyu’s Boozy Monday Brunch (which actually lasts until 10pm), with a three-course Japanese feast and unlimited prosecco and pineapple sake. Or head to the Merchant’s Tavern for wine Mondays and explore the best wine-making regions on the continent. Sample the best of northwest Italy on the 27th, with wines from Liguria and Piedmonte. Oh, and did we mention it’s half price?
Spend the rest of the week recovering and get ready for a busy weekend. Balls & Company are bringing back leisurely Saturday brunches with Sangria Saturdays. Choose bottomless red, white or rosé sangria for £15 and pair it with your favourite flavour of Bonny Porter’s famous meatballs: pork with ricotta and parmesan, short-rib and sofrito or quinoa with beetroot and feta. After two hours of bottomless sangria, you might just believe you really are on holiday.
Finally, round off your week at Foley’s. Every Sunday, Mitz Vora and his team host an intimate reception of 10 guests for their off menu tasting sessions. Each session focuses on a particular region of the Middle East or Asia, with Vora talking you through the flavours and inspirations behind each of the six courses on the bespoke menu. It’s £65 (including a glass of champagne on arrival of course), and sounds totally worth it. Now, time to go fill up those diaries.
