…we’ve got media on the mind. There’s lots changing in the digital world – and most excitingly is the news that Graydon Carter is soon to launch Air Mail, a digital platform and newsletter arriving every Sat. Long live the newsletter! In other news, we’ve been looking at TikTok with interest… what’s next?! With the recent weather, we’ve also been thinking about sunshine. Skip Miami Music Week this year and instead book in for Beat Hotel Festival in Marrakech – or get a trip in to Casa Maca, Ibiza, asap, where the sun is usually shining; more on both below. In other sunny climes… with the inaugural Frieze LA launching Feb 15-17, where the Gucci x Frieze-commissioned Black to Techno will be screened, a last-minute trip to LA is definitely not off the cards. Other than that, stay warm!

First it was the music industry, and now it’s the turn of chefs and hospitality to start bringing staff welfare to the fore. How do you begin a sea change in 16-hour working days? Brawn, Tommy Banks and Trade show us the way.

Nick Griffiths

Ahead of Beat Hotel Festival in Marrakech (more on that below), we spoke to co-founder Nick Griffiths to find out what he gets up to when he’s there, and who to catch at the event.

Can you recommend us a hidden Marrakech gem?
Le Jardin is a multi-levelled café/restaurant owned by Kamal Laftimi (who also owns Nomad and Café Des Epices). It’s right in the middle of the medina, but opens into an oasis of calm, with lush plants and a delicious menu of Moroccan and international dishes.

Winter Brights

Banish the blues

À la Craig Green and David LaChapelle’s new campaign for Kenzo, we’re thinking brights are the way forward this winter. Out with the drab and in with bold hues from Balenciaga, A.P.C and Prada.

Culture and Cuisine

Soak up the sun in Marrakech 28-31 March

We brought you news of the groundbreaking cultural line-up at Beat Hotel Festival before the holidays – think DJs and live performances from Alexis Taylor, HAAi and Palms Trax and talks and workshops from Andrew Weatherall and Patternity. Now they’ve announced tickets for their banquets, which have got us even more excited. Black Axe Mangal, Salon and Niklas Ekstedt are all hosting communal dinners, with dishes including squid ink gougere, flamed celeriac with black garlic and slow roasted lamb with anchovy dressing. We’re already hungry.
