Bring It Home
Birkins. They don't just sell them you know. My unknowing father walked into an Hermes store with the intention of buying one ("I don't know darling, your mother seems to like them") and was swiftly informed that none of the bags on display were actually for sale, and that he might consider joining the three year waiting list should he wish the fairy Birk-mother to eventually appear.
This was entirely perplexing to a man who quite reasonably, expected the concept of supply and demand to exist behind most counters with a till attached.
Such is the wonderful world of the Birkin as elusive as the lesser-spotted Dodo and more coveted in fashion circles than the secret of Karl Lagerfeld's real age.
