Och Aye The New
In an already oversaturated market, where can you plant your flagship fashion hotel and make a splash? With Armani Hotels threatening to take over Milan and Dubai (alongside Cavalli's eponymous club) and Tommy Hilfiger in the "conceptual" stages of hotelier-ing, Missoni have gone all Celtic on us.
The Edinburgh flagship for the Italian fashion house is now taking bookings for its 136 black and white rooms. Have the purveyors of zig-zagged colour joy lost their rainbow-bright minds? Scotland's capital may be blessed with more dour days than a spinster's knickers, but it clearly hasn't sucked the life out of Missoni's spirit.
Promising splashes of colour amongst top interiors by the likes of Marcel Wanders and Scot Charles Rennie Mackintosh, linens from the Missoni Home collection, and a proper Italian kitchen courtesy of Cucina, Hotel Missoni is pushing warmth, comfort and familiarity alongside huge bathrooms, free wi-fi & premium movies, and healthy minibar.
Could Scotland really be trading its 'bonny' for a wee dose of 'bellissima'? Today designer Missoni hotels; tomorrow speedos, Vespas and "mwah-mwah-ciao-bella!" You mark our words.
