New Blood Art

Contemporary online art gallery New Blood Art have been scouring the latest rounds of graduate shows to find unique, affordable work from the most outstanding emerging talent on the scene today. With an online exhibition space boasting paintings, drawings, photographs and prints for sale by artists in the first phase of their careers, you might unwittingly end up picking up a piece by the next Banksy. UJ takes a look at New Blood’s top five picks for the future.

1Alice Browne
BA Fine Art - Painting, Wimbledon College of Art, 2009.

Alice Browne’s practice playfully explores a tension between historical notions of depth relating to the flat painting surface, and depth that we relate to visual experience; what it feels like to look at something in a space (and to be looked back at).

Re-Record Not Fade Away’, 37 x 35cm, oil on canvas, £675.

2

Rebecca Parkin
MA Fine Art - Painting, Royal College of Art, 2009.

Rebecca Parkin’s work investigates the ideal mythological ‘dream hero’ through archetypal images inspired by fashion magazines, cinema and perfume advertising, making the work iconic and strangely familiar.

'Hay Loft', 85.0 x 75.0cm, painting, £430.

3

Susanna Fishlock
BA Fine Art, Central St martin’s, 2009.

Susanna Fishlock draws inspiration from the structures and formations found in nature, concentrating on surface detail and micro elements and recreating them through complex textures and layers of paint that not only represent aspects of nature, but also behave in an organic manner by staining, dripping and cracking. It is from these organic marks that she highlights certain features to create imaginary landscapes.

'Untitled 3', 90.0 x 122.0 cm, painting, £700.

4

Katherine Jones
MA Fine Art – Printmaking, Camberwell College of Art, 2003.

Using an otherworldly visual language, Katherine Jones’ work follows today’s sensitivity towards issues of protection and security. Ideas for many of the prints come as a result of working with contemporary writers and poets and responding directly to their work.

'A House in the Woods', 58.0 x 50.0 cm, collograph print, £380.

5

Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf
BA Fine Art, Surrey Institute of Art and Design, 2004.

Since early childhood Fontaine-Wolf developed a fascination with the human figure through watching her mother painting portraits for a living. This interest in people has been amplified through her multicultural upbringing and living in crowded cities such as London and Munich.

'Blue Thai', 75.0 x 100.0 cm, painting, £900.
