Beach Bum
Soho House’s Miami beach club and hotel opens.
You have to worry about your age (or question your brain synapses) when you hear ‘Miami’ and Will Smith’s rap-riff starts ringing ‘bienvenido a Miami’ in your ears whilst the cool kids are bouncing to LMFAO’s ‘I’m in Miami Trick’ and playing naked twister. Nevertheless, The Fresh Prince had a point; we still want to party in a city where the heat is on, and maybe even take in a little art come Basel in December. And now we know just where to shack up.
Sure there’s the de-lovely Delano, old-school Raleigh and spa-tastic Standard, but our stateside spies are telling us that Nick Jones’ new seafront Soho House pad is seriously impressive, so don your polka dot bikinis and make arrangements ASAP. Whilst glimpses of the building’s Art Deco history shine through the expansive 15 floors, the remodel has left a distinctly beach-pad chic property ready for a coterie of impossibly hot founding members and like its Shoreditch House set-up, hotel guests. The 50 rooms’ interiors are all 40’s Cuban glamour with a gently worn feeling to the quasi-colonial furnishings, pedestal fans and dusty-hued upholsteries.
Grumpy Cows and Bullocks can make use of the usual Cowshed facilities, as well as the new Cowshed Active gym to try and keep up with the Floridian natives. And though you could choose from the new Zuma or Hakakasan in the Fontainbleu , our bets are on in-house restaurant Cecconi’s serving main meals and ‘chicchetti’ tapas plates with refreshing white peach Bellinis – and they’re opening to non-members. The pool is an impressive 100 feet long and has the added incentive of the Tiki Bar with private beach-adjacent garden to get you doing your laps, followed by a little nap on the lounge beds or an air-conditioned cabana facing the Atlantic.
