Border Crossing

Girls have long bought into menswear-inspired womenswear (see the Levi’s Boyfriend Collection) – or just borrowed from their other halves (take the sexy On and Beyond photo-project). Of course it’s not so easy for us gents. But now there’s a refreshing injection of accessible androgyny to make unisex-shopping easier for all.

The upcoming Acne x Candy Mag collab party is this week – and you know what? The gentle gender-blurring of their shirt range is tickling the fancies of both the guys and gals here at UJHQ. One collection, two gender options. Done.

In a vast converted boxing gym in Dalston, meanwhile, the long-awaited Late Night Chameleon Cafe is opening this week with a unique approach to buying: namely predominant menswear – but selected for both men and women to wear. Confused? It seems to be about doing with the androgynous pieces from Balenciaga, Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto et al what you will. Girl up, boy up, dress up, dress down… the choice is yours. And all in one store.

To push the boundaries even further, the Gary Card-designed space has a thoroughly DSM/Colette multi-function curatorial vibe going on, also offering limited edition vinyl and a gorgeous book range organised by Donlon Books. Oh, and a seriously killer soundsystem because, well, you never know do you?
