Good Enough To Eat
There’s something reassuring about old school shopping experiences. We loved the concept of pay-by-the-kilo rather than per-item at a recent Vintage Fashion Fair, whilst Betty Blythe’s Tea Shop and Fine Food Pantry is doing a rip-roaring trade in traditional hampers for the quintessential English picnic this Summer, complete with lashings of Ginger Beer.
Which is why, when we happily stumbled on Content Beauty/Wellbeing, hidden away down a Marylebone lane, we thought we’d landed in old apothecary heaven. Minus the wizened old man doling out black market poison to star-crossed lovers, natch. Vials and potions are grouped in little cubby holes, old barber-shop mirrors line the walls next to vintage botanical illustrations, and everything stocked meets stringent all-natural, organic criteria set by owner Imelda Burke.
We tried the Wallpaper Facial of the Year 2009, a Dr Alkaitis Skin Food Facial consisting entirely of raw ‘live’ ingredients including a good-enough-to-eat manuka honey and goat’s milk yoghurt mask. It left us feeling clean, refreshed, and just a little like licking our own skin.
As the Content motto goes, if you wouldn’t put it in your body, don’t put it on your body.
