Contemporary portraiture finds a home this autumn at Whitchapel Gallery with ISelf Collection and The End of Love. Back in 2012, Lebanese artist Akram Zaatari brought together a collection of 49 portraits taken by Hashem el Madani in the 1960s and 1970s, entitled The End of Love. Lending its name to this show of contemporary portraiture, Whitechapel Gallery has gathered the works of Jake and Dinos Chapman, Alex Katz, Man Ray, Wolfgang Tillmans and Gillian Wearing (amongst others) to focus on the relationship between self and other, artist, sitter and viewer, and the 30 international artists displayed alongside Zaatari’s collection.
