Take A Break: Moët Room

Moet Room

Impossibly fierce heels and cobbles rarely get along. Neither do manicures and seat snatching squabbles, or for the unlucky ones, standing room cramp. Head to some of the capital's best rest-ups for a spot of recouperation before it starts all over again. It's a hard game, fashion.

We may have lost subversive design maestro Gareth Pugh to French shores, but he hasn’t left us entirely empty handed. Teaming up with champagne power house Moët & Chandon, Pugh has designed their exclusive VIP room this year, complete with futuristic light installation, Hummingbird cupcakes, and many celebrities. UJ are loving their key; black and white striped Linda Farrow & Pugh sunglasses.

Q & A with Gareth Pugh

Garth Pugh & The Key

How do you feel about working on your first interior with the Moët Room?
It’s very interesting to be able to translate what I am doing on the runway into an interior space. The room will certainly give an abstract hint to what it is that I will be showing in Paris this season, and I’m very excited to see what it will look like when it’s installed!

What are you planning for your first interior design?
Basically- I wanted to push it.  For the past couple of seasons I’ve been lucky enough to have Moët allow me to use the room after my show for my family and friends to enjoy a drink or two. The interior seemed very referential of the past- boudoir-esque, gold, gilt... it reminded me of the Hemingway bar at the Ritz in Paris.

When they asked me to design the room, I decided to flip it on its head- it will most definitely be looking forward- very modern and sharp with clean lines with a tinge of the darkness that seems to permeate my fashion shows.  Think ‘Pimp My Ride’ meets ‘Changing Rooms’!

You've worked with Moët for four seasons now - how do you view the collaboration?
For me, Moët is as much a part of fashion week as Hilary Alexander.  So to be able to work directly with them on such diverse and interesting projects is an honour. They have a refreshing approach to creativity and are very open to, and unafraid of new ideas, and for such a big and visible brand, this is truly to their credit.
