The French Are Invading!
Not wishing to sound like my grandmother, but what have the French ever done for us? Aside from Chanel, that is. Oh and Bardot. Maybe Piaf, berets, Tefal and Sartre. Cognac and Champagne are pretty good. Include Paris’s Experimental Cocktail Club on the list and even my grandmother might have to rethink her quaint xenophobia. Bless her tipple-loving socks.
A Public Place
Guy Pelly’s new venture on the King’s Road promises carousel horses, sweet shops and dressing up in a cavernous warehouse space.
Stella Artois Black Presents.... The Night Chauffeur
Stella Artois' The night Chauffeur previewed at The Peasant Pub last Thrusday, and UJ were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at what's on offer. From femme fatales stealing glances across the room and a live jazz band riffing in the corner, to marital squabbles, mysterious underground goings-on and of course, the street-tour by night in a classic 60's Citroen DS, it was enchanting. Check out the pictures here, and don’t forget to buy yourself a pint of Stella Artois’ new ‘Black’ beer to register yourself for a chance to win tickets to attend too.
East, But Not Too East
So East London has bars? No way! Ditch the sarcasm, kids, and listen up. If only because East’s two newest watering holes aren’t in deepest Dalston for a change (one in Dalston, one among the City Road caffs) – and they promise some more-than-decent drinking fare.
Ex-Oh-Why-Oh
The world is feeling pretty serious at the moment. Papal visits, natural disasters, oil spills… Combine this with our nostalgia for the days when you didn’t have to cab it to end of Dalston-on-Sea to find a decent party and Old Street’s new club, XOYO, is looking pretty tasty.
Top Three Bars for … Experimenting
There are certain moments in life when nothing quenches quite like a cold beer. There are those times when it’s a Martini or even a gin and tonic. But then there are those occasions in life when one really ought to live a little; to drink outside the box, as it were. Foams and infusions, essences and caviars, the drinks scene in London is in a very special place right now. Here our top three cocktail bars of the moment getting experimental on our tastebuds.
