Maxine Munn – On|Off Backstage Manager
What inspires you when you work at On/Off?
Working for Lee, he takes a new approach by working with new designers and now working with established ones and moves away from the British Fashion Council. I’ve been part of On/Off for a long time now and seeing something grow like it has is extremely inspiring.
What are the biggest challenges of your job?
Initially it’s working with a team who are mostly strangers and have never worked together and hoping they can, because without them it wouldn’t work and you never quite know if it’ll all fall flat.
What would people be surprised to know about your role?
How unglamorous it is! I get up really early, get on the tube with no make-up and then I get hot a sweaty all day and end up on my knees helping models into dresses. From the outside it sounds wonderful, but I’ve hardly watched a fashion show because I’m always busy backstage.
How did you get to be a part of On/Off?
I was working with Lee at the University College for the Creative Arts in Rochester, helping with fashion shows. Lee liked the way I worked and asked me to get involved with On/Off and from there I have been asked back each time and continued to work with Lee.
