Daily Coverage: Spijkers en Spijkers
With Art Deco as a theme, the curves and geometry of the
style was bound to be a major part of this collection. However,
some of the standout pieces used less of this concept. Amongst
the killer pieces were an YSL style tightly fitted suit in
teal Fortuny pleated fabric, a terrific 70's style mustard
knitted coat in heavy rib with a nonchalant tie belt and silver
buttons.
There was also a brilliant peg topped skirt in violet satin
with a deep high waist band, and a silver dress with sinuous
curves and a gentle cap sleeve effect. Many of the simple
shift dresses had an easy elegance with a passing nod at the
style of screen stars such as Doris Day. The Art Deco overlays,
straps and inserts had a precise outline in contrast to the
fluidity of the soft silk fabrics used for the body of the
dress. The shoes were reminiscent of the lines of the Chrysler
Building in New York with their layers of coloured suede and
really complimented the overall styling of the collection.
