AGENDA

FRIDAY DECEMBER 12, 2008
New Fusion

You've gotta be pretty brave, in these days of Modern British or bust, to set up a new type of fusion restaurant.

Although, thinking about it, there has been a small ripple of quirky concepts coming out recently so maybe the seas of change are, erm, changing.

From Master of the Orient Alan Yau opening Italian bakery-cum-Prosecco-bar Princi, to Momo teaming up with artist Carsten Höller and Prada to do Western-Congolese pop-up hotspot The Double Club, it seems like folk are in the mood for something a bit different.

So surely Brazilian/Japanese was obviously the next thing, wasn't it?

Aiming to 'breathe new, exotic life into London's sushi scene' Sushinho, which has just opened on the Kings Road, is a hybrid of the two vibrant cultures, blending Rio sass with Tokyo foodie know-how - the link being, and here's the geeky bit, that there are more Japanese living in Brazil than anywhere else in the world, apart from Japan.

So there are cleverly fused, cosmopolitan delights like 'sakeirinhas' (like caipirinhas but made with sake) to be sipped and sautéed lobster with chilli vinaigrette or crispy pork belly with feijoada bean purée to be nibbled, which should go down a treat with the Chelsea set.

And it will keep us going until someone thinks to open a Transylvanian Burger Bar
