…this week we have restaurants on the mind – so many new spots in London! Check out our restaurant around town story below, and be sure to click through. Also, just when we thought we were done with Ibiza, we’re already considering a last minute sunshine trip – reason being: W Ibiza just opened, and is on soft launch until October 27th. Looking ahead, Halloween’s right around the corner, but we haven’t seen anything amazing come through yet. Have something we need to know about? Let us know please. Lastly, and importantly, this weekend is another march for a second referendum. Join us with the R3 Soundsystem and fight for your right! Happy October.

Member’s Everything

Wellbeing and escapes are the latest to get the members-only treatment

Yes, we all know London has more member’s bars than you can shake a stick at – but lately we’ve noticed membership concepts are extending their reach, with wellbeing and escapes the latest to get in on the act.

Honey Fucking Dijon

DJs go Fash

Peggy, Honey, and TMB

Music and fashion have always had synergy, but lately it seems that big DJs are not just fashionable, but are starting their own lines too. Fresh off her global collection promo tour, Peggy Gou, electronic music’s current darling, has been promoting her line, Kirin (from New Guards, the umbrella company behind Off-White etc., which has recently been bought by Farfetch, keep up), in between her b2b2b2b gigs. Honey Dijon, another very du jour name, has just launched a collection – Honey Fucking Dijon – at Dover Street Market, in partnership with Comme des Garçons, with logos in collab with Trevor Jackson. And DC10 residents and tech-house royalty, The Martinez Brothers, are currently in an ad campaign with DKNY, posting about Barneys NY, and working with Carolina Herrera, all the while playing nine-hour sets (Circo closing!) followed by after parties in between. We’ll hand it to them: these three are working hard for their money!

Patrick Powell

Head chef, Allegra at The Stratford

Patrick Powell (ex-Chiltern), serves modern Euro cuisine in very uptown surroundings at Allegra. Set on the 7th floor of the impressive Manhattan Loft Gardens, book a room and make a special night of it. Patrick gives us some of his favourite London and global spots – and from his answers, sounds like we’d get along great!

UJ: What chef should we have our eyes on? Someone who is inspiring you?

P: Kirk Haworth from Plates restaurant. His overall food knowledge is incredible.

UJ: Do you have a favourite spot in London that’s a bit of a hidden gem or that we might not know about?

P: Umut 2000, a late night Turkish place in Dalston. Open till 2am, always buzzy and the food is delicious.

Forks out

Okay, get your notebooks out, this is a long one. First up, let’s start with the restaurants we can’t wait to get into: Decimo at The Standard (10th floor, Spanish/Mexican), and Toca Madera at the soon-to-launch Treehouse London (15th floor, also serving modern Mexican). Next, it’s the ones we’ve recently been into (click names for reviews): Seabird, an instant fave with seafood up high, BaoziInn London Bridge is where you go for excellent roasted meats and XXL soup dumplings, and 34 Mayfair’s new Bloody Mary Brunch is where you head for a Sunday treat.

Tourist for the day

The other day, we just wanted to do something different in London. So we boarded Bustronome, a double decker that’s been converted into a glass top moving gourmet restaurant and went for a ride. Sights, tunes, great wines, and a four-course lunch, this was a gooood time!

Restaurant Events

For your calendar

We love any food event, really, and here are a couple special ones for your radar. This Sunday, to kick off the Sundays at Evelyn’s series, it’s a four-course pairing menu with UJ fave Enter.Sake; £60– book here. At Santo Remedio, for three nights only (Oct 22-24), they will be doing dinners with José Manuel Baños, whose restaurant Pitiona has ranked among Latin America’s 50 best. There will be five-courses with mezcal pairings for £85 – book now. On November 2, it’s a UJ absolute fave, Blood Shot at the Dairy, which starts at 12:30 AM. See you there.

New hotels on our radar

We’re a fan of the sustainably led brand 1 Hotels (Miami, NY), and so we’re interested to see what their ‘little brother’ Treehouse London is like. Opening Oct 31 in Langham Place, there will be 95 rooms, a rooftop bar, a wine bar that feels like a treehouse, bikes, a check-in on the 15th floor, and the usual eco initiatives. Over in Ibiza (we’re not done yet!), W Ibiza is now on soft launch. Book in now until October 27th to get a sneak peek of what will be the Ibiza opening of 2020 – plus with less crowds, great weather, and favourable rates. Lastly, it’s plant-based everything right now, and at design-led aparthotel Leman Locke, they now have plant suites, in a collab with The Joy of Plants. In the jungle, and all that.

Save the Dates

This week we have a mixed bag. First up, it’s Saturday’s march with an absolutely stellar set of DJs; dance in support of a second referendum. BE THERE and give what you can to support the cost of the soundsystem. Next up, on Sunday it’s Craig Richards and Ricardo Villalobos at Fabric to celebrate Fabric’s 20th bday (always a post-ADE club highlight), with doors open at 4PM. Lastly, on October 25th it’s Blade Runner Live at the RAH, complete with 11-piece music ensemble, with synths and strings.
