How are we doing??? Wow, a lot can happen in a day. In moments like these we’re especially happy to have a voice in our fair city. These may be uncharted times, but we’re here to help keep your heads above water. We’re thinking positive vibes only. This week, we’ve mixed the format up a little – seemed only appropriate. So without further ado, we hope something in here makes you smile. Big ❤️, fellow Londoners. We love you, and we are going to come out of this stronger and better than ever.

Dine along the canal

After walking along the canal the other weekend, this looked like the perfect Big Smoke antidote, but still in the city. Likely best to just walk along the canal for now, and earmark dining here for later (or takeaway? or well-spaced outdoor tables?).

Get ur orders in

You know what we need right now? Wine. Lots of it. And Tom Harrow, our favourite Wine Chap, knows this. Check out his luxe picks of wines to get you through this extended time at home, and visit his Honest Grapes wine shop to make a purchase (or 10; they offer free delivery over £75). Also on the wine front, Renegade Urban Wines (they make wines in London) are delivering for free, no min order.

Lock in

If we’re going to be spending more time alone, we’re going to have to entertain ourselves with our working from home looks. Forget pyjamas, we’re going all out. And if that banana fan does’t make you smile, we’re not sure what will.

Inhale, exhale, repeat

So, when we heard Simon Rogan had opened a second restaurant in the Lake District – Henrock – we knew we had to get down. And now that we know there’s a cosy hotel attached to it, with a great bar and views of Lake Windermere, the time to give it a visit is hopefully soon.

Cookbooks

Get busy in the kitchen

Less travel means more time. And more time means there’s possibly more space to get your chef on. We’ve included Snoop’s cookbook as a bit of fun, Trullo and the Palomar in case you feel like trying to recreate some of your London faves, Street Food and The Food of Sichuan for a little spice, Noma and Momofuku, which are both currently closed, and Black Axe Mangal, which is currently focused on takeaway – all so you can try to bring the flavours inside.

W Ibiza x The Martinez Brothers

Vocalists, remixers, musicians of any kind, we want you

Calling all musicians! Can you sing or play the strings? Are you good at remixing and/or production? If so, W Ibiza has just launched a comp with DC10 Ibiza faves, The Martinez Brothers (powered by Splice), searching for one musician to record a track with. The winning artist will spend a studio session with The Martinez Brothers in Barcelona, release a track with them on their record label Cuttin’ Headz and attend the W Ibiza launch where the track will be premiered. Sound good? Applications are due 25 March, so it’s time to get busy.

Two for your music-dar

If you need some new tunes, we have two albums for your radar. Released 27 Feb, Riz Ahmed’s second album The Long Goodbye is a poetic masterpiece. If you haven’t already, give Where You From a listen. Whoa. An even more recent release is Jay Electronica’s A Written Testimony, which includes Jay-Z on eight tracks. If it’s good enough to be on Benji B’s repeat….

The Class by Taryn Toomey

Digital Fixes

So, home workouts. We’ve never really been fans, but needs must. US celeb trainer Kira Stokes is on the right side of enthusiastic. Positive and encouraging, her workouts are easy to follow and require minimum equipment. Check out her Instagram for taster sets, and download her app for the complete experience. Taryn Toomey’s The Class has a digital studio, where they will be streaming classes (free for the first two weeks) and Paola’s Body Barre will be doing her first live class tomorrow at 8AM. If you’re a yogi, we have it on good authority that YouTube’s Breathe and Flow is great; so is Hello Yoga. We also noticed NY fitness guru Hannah Bronfman give a shout out to this list of workout streaming offers, should you be looking to get physical.

Have a digi workout we should know about? Let us know.

Do what you can

We’re of course on board with supporting as many hospitality businesses as we can, in whatever way that may be right now. If you feel like ordering in more, the Notting Hill Fish Shop (so good, support local!) is doing deliveries, produce faves Natoora are allowing customers to put in orders (previously industry only), and Deliveroo now has contact-free delivery (drop and dash). Remember to look at the smaller delivery companies too, like Farm Drop and Odd Box. For drinks, Scout LDN will be doing cocktails to takeaway and for delivery. We’re still looking forward to sunnier days, too – and that involves launches like Cha Cha on Golborne Road (three floors, Latin-Med cuisine with a patio), and Noble Rot, Soho. Coming soon….

Live streaming

Okay, so from what we can see these are quite DIY (as you’d expect). BUT. If you feel like a rave, and can’t go dancing, DJs are live streaming from their homes, complete with podium dancers and light shows, which is nice. So far we’ve checked out streams from Diplo and Blondish, with more to follow we’re sure. We have to say, it’s great to see everyone pitching in to make things better. Contributions matter and are appreciated! Big love to any effort anyone makes, big or small.

Thank You

A big thanks to those who are already putting up posts for things they can do to help: Jake Hall from Prévu looking for people to help do drops to the elderly this week (date TBC), and Josh Parkinson putting up notes around the neighbourhood offering to help. Keep them coming. And for those of you who want to get the word out about anything, please tag or DM us, we’re here to help! Stay safe all.
