Focused Health
Crystal clear

Gone are the days of a ‘bikini bootcamp’ being considered a forward-thinking health stay; these days most health retreats are uber focused. Recently, Dr Tam (of Six Senses Ibiza and Solice Health) hosted a longevity retreat at Can 7 in Formentera, with a focus on the nervous system and how to reset it. Bath’s Combe Grove has a six-night retreat that combines the medicinal and holistic to kick start your metabolic health, and the three-day Eudēmonia summit in West Palm Beach (1-3 November) has approx. 10 different focus topics, with some of the world’s best specialists there for classes (like Taryn Toomey from The Class), as well as talks.

A mobile format switch-up feels like it could be a nice change. Samsung is leading the way with their models (Margiela Flip4 and 5, and the Paris Olympics gold Flip 6, with a leather Berluti case); Apple has filed a patent for one that has a self-healing screen; and we’ve got our eyes on an old Motorola RAZR.

To note

Just Opened
JKS, the group behind Gymkhana, Kitchen Table and BiBi, to name a few, has recently opened their latest spot, Ambassador’s Clubhouse, with a Punjabi-inspired menu and décor. There will be a nod to the celebrations that took place in the mansions that inspired this restaurant, with a late night music programme. Over in Notting Hill, the Palomar group are opening another location of their Neal’s Yard hit, The Barbary (12 Sept); can’t wait. And near St. Paul’s, Leydi is a new modern Turkish restaurant in the Hyde London City hotel.

Coming Soon
The head chef and GM of Pidgin are reopening the space as SESTA on 11 Sept. The menu will be a modern take on British and European dishes and also reflect the time spent in southeast Asia by Snaith, the head chef; most of the front and back of house team are from Pidgin, too. Endo’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Endo at the Rotunda, re-opens 17 Sept after a refurb; it’s already fully booked until the end of November, but join the waitlist here.

Events
Claridge’s is launching a Kitchen Supper Series in partnership with The Good Food Guide, which will see top chefs from across the UK, including Wales’ Gareth Ward from Ynyshir restaurant, take over Claridge’s kitchen for one night only. Dinners take place in L’Epicerie, their chef’s table experience, and the first one, on 25 Sept, is hosted by Claridge’s Culinary Director, Simon Attridge; tickets here. At Hotel Café Royal, Alex Dilling has a new martini hour (to launch his new gin, 5 Puffins) from 6-8PM Tues-Saturday, and 12-4 Sat and Sundays; email to reserve. Also on the bling end, Berry Bros are doing an ‘Iconic Spanish Fine Wine’ dinner with Nieves Barragán (of Sabor) in their dining room at No. 3 St. James on 10 September, with tickets going for an eye-watering £1,325 pp. The Pelican are also doing supper clubs; 17 September is their ox head dinner, tickets here.

NY’s Pastis is heading to Florida at The Nora Hotel, and London’s Dishoom was at Pastis in NYC for breakfast only for the month of August; could this mean a stateside breakfast spot from the restaurant is in the works? Helmut Lang is passing on NY Fashion Week and instead, opening a store in London; Hauser and Wirth are opening their first NYC restaurant, as well as a second US location for their Manuela restaurant, which is currently in LA.

Save the dates

Last week, several nightclubs announced dates for the autumn, and a few that caught our eye include: at Drumsheds, Honey Dijon’s House Nation with Major League DJz (6/11), and at KOKO, a DJ Tennis takeover on the 10/11 October, with a show, supperclub, afterparty and more; info coming soon.

Pablo’s House
New

Home to many an after-party before there were really places to party in Tulum, Pablo Escobar’s old house has always been lively. Well, now it’s become hotel Casa Malca, with artwork from greats like Jeff Koons, Basquiat, and Keith Haring.

Clos19 Closing
So long, but not entirely farewell

An email came in last week saying that Clos19, the LVMH-owned website that operates as the online sales portal for Moët Hennessy drinks, was closing at the end of this month. You can still opt in, however, to receive information from some of their brands; select which ones interest you.

Refresh

You know we’re a fan of Jasmina Vico’s, and her new Vico Ultra MD is the perfect post holiday treatment. Utilising a laser, it targets sun damage and pigmentation, melasma, lines and more; contact them for more info. She also has her first product out, Screen Star, which delivers fast hydration in the form of a serum and is getting, unsurprisingly, rave reviews.

We love this. Have furniture from IKEA that you no longer want? Well, they’ll now buy it back for in-store credit. Feels a lot better than throwing it out; we hope more furniture stores follow their lead.
