So, the owner of Whole Foods has launched a health and wellness club in LA called Love Life, the owner of Spotify has launched an almost-affordable body health scanner called Neko in London, and somehow, WeWork’s Adam Neumann has raised investment again, this time to open co-living spaces called Flow, which have a number of wellbeing-ish services under the (rather annoying) banner of ‘conscious community’; Flow is currently in Florida (Ft Lauderdale and MIA) and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

New collaborations

We’ve noticed a few places and a publication that have launched their own drinks lately, including Paradise Soho’s new wine (Paradies, a Riesling made in collaboration with Modal Wines); Side Hustle’s limited-edition tequila (made in partnership with multi-award-winning tequila brand El Tequileño); and Sausage Press’s new English fizzy red wine called ‘Skin in the Game’ (made in collaboration with Walthamstow’s Renegade Wine), which is limited to 150 bottles and coming out 30 October on DELLI.

The Buddha of Suburbia
The Barbican
Sponsored listing

From October 22, director Emma Rice brings her unique and joyful style to Hanif Kureishi’s award-winning 1990 novel, exploring family, friends, sex, theatre and, ultimately, belonging, in a critically acclaimed production of The Buddha of Suburbia.

South London in the late seventies. High unemployment, high inflation, food shortages and strikes. But despite the winter of discontent, 17-year-old Karim’s life is about to explode into glorious technicolour as he navigates a path to enlightenment. Or at the very least, Beckenham.

The RSC and Wise Children’s ‘glorious and intoxicating five-star’ (The Times) production of The Buddha of Suburbia transfers for a limited four-week season from 22 October to 16 November. Watch the trailer here.

It’s Bagels have been busy. Following their recent Notting Hill opening comes another new location, on Berwick Street in Soho this month. On 4 November, Samyukta Nair (Socca, MiMi Mei Fair, KOYN etc.) is opening Nipotina, a neighbourhood Italian restaurant on South Audley Street and on 6 November, Bottarga, by the Pachamama Group, will open in Chelsea and will be a more casual version of their Mediterranean zēphyr in Notting Hill. In December, Don’t Tell Dad will be another bakery by day, restaurant by night, this time in Queen’s Park on foodie Lonsdale Road.

Birthdays
We’re going to do this in order of seniority: The Savoy has turned 135! Details of celebrations to come. Tamarind have turned 30 and to celebrate, they have a stunning new terrace and central bar that is, importantly, open year round. Carousel is 10, marking 350 guest chef collabs, from over 100 cities. Decimo – the Spanish/Mexican restaurant on the 10th floor at The Standard – just turned five, and have launched a revamped menu and concept. And lastly, Claridge’s (excellent) Restaurant has turned one! They have a new menu that includes dishes ‘that feel like old friends’ including a fish pie, Dover Sole, lobster spaghetti, and a seafood tower.

Other News
The London Shell Co’s boat-based restaurants in Paddington, The Prince Regent and The Grand Duchess, have closed. They’ll now be focusing on their Swain’s Lane fishmonger/restaurant site and other land-based events and activities. Freddie Janssen’s Snackbar restaurant has also closed – we can’t wait to see what she does next. The Wolseley is now doing brunch; Lyle’s is now serving an à la carte menu alongside their set menu; The Hoxton Shoreditch will now offer out-of-hours (10:30PM-7AM) bagel deliveries to guests from the legendary Beigel Bake nearby; and if you like olive oil, try this Sommelier’s Selection of oils from Italy, Greece, Spain and Lebanon.

Devil Wears Prada
A New musical
Sponsored listing

GIRD YOUR LOINS! A new musical based on the blockbuster film and bestselling novel, The Devil Wears Prada features an original score by Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub & Mark Sonnenblick, book by Kate Wetherhead and direction & choreography by three-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde, Pretty Woman, Hairspray). Tony Award nominee Vanessa Williams, best known for her celebrated TV roles in Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives and as an award-winning singer, will play the iconic role of Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. She’s joined by Georgie Buckland, making her West End debut as Andy, Amy Di Bartolomeo (Six) as Emily, and Matt Henry (Olivier Award winner for Kinky Boots) as Runway’s Creative Fashion Director, Nigel.

You know the story, but ‘fresh out of college, aspiring journalist Andy scores a job at the prestigious Runway magazine working for fashion’s most powerful and terrifying icon — editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly. Sacrificing her personal life to meet Miranda’s impossible demands, Andy finds herself seduced by the glamorous world she once despised. How far will she go to succeed… and will it be worth selling her soul to get what she’s always wanted?’

Hilariously fun and fabulously stylish, The Devil Wears Prada tells an inspiring story about discovering what kind of person you truly want to be. Watch the trailer here.

Round up

Bustronome. On paper, you’d think this is all wrong – fine dining on a sightseeing bus – but we’ve done the one in London, and it’s a great way to see the sights; they’ve just launched in NYC, with Vegas about to join LDN and Paris routes. The Park Hyatt London River Thames (in Nine Elms, close to Battersea Power Station) just opened and is the brand’s first London hotel; they have residences, too. In Sicily, in an attempt to attract tourism year round, they’re running 33 different (very reasonable) historic train journeys from now until 8 December. And lastly, should you find yourself in Bangkok, Michelin-starred chef Oliver Limousin will be curating a unique dining experience focused on inventive combinations via Latin American flavours with French techniques, served in a tapas format at Coba, opening 7 November. What will they think of next…

POP Wars
The good, the bad, the fun

We wouldn’t normally cover this, but we’ve noticed there’s a bit of a pop flavour-off going on…

When Fanta x Beetlejuice came through, we thought ‘this looks fun’ (‘tis the season); when we heard the new Shirley Temple 7UP wasn’t terrible, we thought ‘that’s not bad… we do need more sugar-free non-alcoholic options’; and when we noticed the Pepsi Mango ads on black cabs… we thought ‘OOOOOOF’.
