There’s something about Brighton in the autumn. Blustery sea walks, cosy afternoon drinks, lazy days, and now there’s a new place to base your stay.
The fourth property from boutique hotel brand GuestHouse, No. 124 Brighton will have 32 rooms in four regal townhouses, directly on the seafront. The word boutique gets thrown around a lot, but this truly feels it. Pass through the front door and immediately feel comfortable, like you’ve just arrived at a friend’s house; put down your bags and get cosy. There’s an outdoor bar and terrace, restaurant, spa, games room, meeting spaces, an excellent vinyl collection, and huge windows that allow for sweeping sea views. There’s also a pantry filled with healthy treats and vintage sweets that you can help yourself to 24/7, and you can also rent a room or the entire property for a great soirée.

| | | | | 32 is a great number. | | It’s not so small that you feel like you’re on a weekend away with the other guests, or big enough to feel invisible; 32 is just right. Rooms are split across five floors, with six different categories; highlights include the rooms with sea views that are centred on the old West Pier, the playful décor touches, great lighting, in-room Wildsmith products and record players. The Hideout Suite has its own entrance, lounge, kitchenette, bar cabinet and cocktail-making station, copper bath, hot tub, and large windows; it’s the perfect place to, as the name suggests, hide away.

| | | The Ground Floor is the home of the Terrace, Bar, Lounge, Games Room and Courtyard. | | With a cosy member’s bar vibe, without the membership fees, there’s a House Menu that’s served throughout these spaces with comfort-style items like oysters and crispy potatoes with truffle cheese sauce; wood-fired prawns and lobster; sharing boards; lobster rolls; burgers and caesar salads. On the wildflower-clad outdoor Terrace Bar, which is open in warmer months, there’s also great wood-fired pizzas.

| | | | | | Inspiration for the hotel’s décor came via three things: Brighton’s Royal Pavilion, which was built during the reign of Brighton’s “Party Prince” King George IV and has Indian, Moorish, and Chinese influences; Charleston, the 20th century home and studio of writers, artists and intellectuals in the Bloomsbury Group, which translates in design to pastels and graphic patterns; and the eccentricity of Brighton itself, seen throughout the hotel.

| | | | | | Other GuestHouse locations include No. 1 York, No. 15 Bath, and lastly No. 42 Margate, which utlisised the same designer, Emma Montier, and her team at the GuestHouse design studio, as Brighton’s No. 124. There may be two different head designers so far across the four GuestHouse properties, but things they all have include the day-t0-night help yourself pantries, train station luggage collection, and record players with vinyl libraries. There’s definitely fun woven into the DNA of all four hotels, and they also have gift cards for stays, dining, and treatments, should you need a gift.
