Are there ever rooms at Babington? Unless you are blessed with the number of the keeper of rooms (batphone!), it truly seems impossible. On a mission to be close to Babington, but not at Babington, we now have a list, should you be in the same dilemma.
1. The Talbot Inn, Mells Somerset (5 mins to Babington)
This 15th century coach house has four-poster beds and tubs in some rooms, a cosy pub, two restaurants and seems very reasonable. They have three other hotels, too, shoud you need to look further: The Bath Arms (Horningsham, 22 mins to Babington), The Beckford Arms (Wiltshire, 37 minutes to Babington), The Lord Poulett Arms (Hindon St George, 49 minutes to Babington).

This looks just perfect. Wood burning stove, outdoor dining table in the grass, crisp bedding and brass faucets. A double and two singles.
The Chapel3. The Cow Guesthouse (approx 23 minutes)
Tom Conran’s bolthole in Bruton, this has some Notting Hill-goes-to-the-country rock vibes. We love the tiles (yellow in the kitchen for the win).

They call them restaurants with rooms, and this 29-bed looks like a chic, chilled affair.

Another Chapel, this one is a restaurant with rooms; rooms seem reaonable and streamlined, with wood, whites, light grey marble, and some with original beams.
At The Chapel6. Queensberry Hotel, Bath (28 minutes to Babington)
If you actually want to be in town, this boutique abode, which is spread over four Georgian townhouses with a Michelin star restaurant and contemporary country décor, seems like a good pick.
Queensberry Hotel7. The Newt in Somerset (31 minutes to Babington)
This rather new addition seems to have it all, including wild swimming pools and a cider press. Not easy to get a reservation, but once in, there are bikes, a spa, restaurants, a mushroom house, thatched ice cream parlour…we could go on.
