Casa Reîa

Chic beach club approximately 45 minutes from Lisbon

Details

More info

Beach clubs are a hard one. Some feel too flash, some too naff, some too surfer-y. This one hits just right. A stylish crowd, that doesn’t try too hard, at a venue where the drinks are good; the views are great, and the vibes are sky high.

The Décor

Daybeds and thatched roofs, lowriding chairs, and larger tables: there are a variety of different options here, including indoor dining, depending on what time you come. We noted one staff member wearing penny loafers in the sand, which looked great. Overall, this seems to be a magnet for the global set.

The Menu

The menu is good here, and it’s not all traditional – Atlantic/Med with a splash of Japanese– which is refreshing, and most things are done on a Josper grill. Highlights include a kale salad with pumpkin, aged cashew cheese, mushroom vinaigrette and mushrooms; grilled octopus cooked in dashi; seabream matured for three days with spring onions; sashimi of six day-aged bigeye tuna, clementine, wasabi root and lemon; and fried smoked potatoes with paprika. Cocktails include things like Ginger Palomas and Watermelon Spices and they also have an adaptogenic menu of lattes.

Highlights

The location. Walk the wooden plank to get here, and enter the Reîa world. Surf, wade in the tidal pools, dine, and doze off on your bed; you might be just 45 minutes from Lisbon, but it feels a world away from the sweltering city. Check their programme for events including Friday night sunset dinners, collabs with music labels, and live concerts; you can book surf school on the property, too.

Anything Else

Book a sunbed at Cabana na Reîa, which also has its own more casual menu, so you can relax and spend the day here. You can take the ferry from Cais do Sodre in Lisbon (get tickets to Cacilhas, a 10-minute boat ride) and then Uber (to avoid traffic on the bridge from Lisbon) or take a taxi the whole way, depending on the time of day. They are open from April-September.
