After the queues-out-the-door success of its first Brixton home, Kricket’s Soho venue is a stripped-back spot with a big focus on bar dining. When we walked in, we got serious Barrafina vibes. If you don’t go early, expect to queue. We arrived at 6.30, and by 7, there was a wait of an hour. This place is popular.

Flavours

Unlike its modern Indian contemporaries (Gymkhana, Trishna, Dishoom, Gunpowder), Kricket is headed up by two English chefs, Rik Campbell and Will Bowlby. The clue’s in the name – it’s a meeting point for English and Indian influences. The focus is on small plates, and updating Indian classics with a British twist: think samphire with your pakoras, bone marrow with your kulcha, hazelnuts with your paneer.

Top Tip

Order the bhel puri over the rice – it’s what our waiter advised and we didn’t regret it.

Highlight

The pumpkin with makhani sauce. Looks as good as it tastes.
