In a Sentence
Seriously posh pub + grub from Masterchef’s Michel Roux Jr.
Vibe
The Wigmore feels upmarket without being stuffy. It’s familiar and comfortable (everyone feels at home in the pub), with laid-back soul on the stereo, but there’s table service. #UJLoves.
Décor
Think The Ivy, taken down a notch – but that’s not a bad thing. The Wigmore is all forest green, dark wood and marble, with touches of Missoni-esque fabric. There’s perimeter seating that feels cosy yet not too relaxed – like dining, rather than snacking, is always an option, and the high central tables are great if you’re just stopping by for a drink.
Food
The menu specialises in pub fare, turned up to 11. Homely, comforting, but with a foodie twist. We opted for a selection of small plates and sides for an informal, sharing vibe: deep fried green olives and the already-all-over-Instagram masala scotch and the always-essential pub chips fulfil all your fried-good needs, balanced out by crumpets with steamed crab, fresh mussels and tomato with lovage.
Drink
It goes without saying that the drinks here are nothing ordinary. The cocktail list is concise, offering London-centric takes on some of the classics, plus the innovative ‘Hoptails’ – The Wigmore’s take on a Great British shandy – are a must-try.
Highlight
The Toreador cocktail – an English twist on a margarita with apricot brandy, maybe even better than the original.
Top Tip
Start things off with a deluxe gin punch in one of their monogrammed mini goblets.
