Vibe & Decor

You’ve had champagne in the Shrigley Gallery and stopped by the The Lecture Room, but don’t overlook The Glade. The bar and restaurant has been redesigned by Sketch founder Mourad Mazouz and artist Carolyn Quartermaine, and we have to admit, its charms are had to resist. The Glade’s decoupage forest remains, but some key redesigns bring the room to life; Alexandra Kehayoglou’s hand-woven carpet is straight out of Wonderland, huge, velvet upholstered chairs put up a great argument for staying at brunch all day, and rotating mirrors in the wall create a feeling of pools of water somewhere off in the distance. Yes, the dreamlike quality is here in every touch, but it doesn’t stray into the sickly. Mazouz gets it just right once again.

Flavours

All day brunch is now served seven days a week, with Sketch chef Pierre Gagnaire and Hervé Deville creating some playful updates on brunch classics. Scrambled eggs with truffle were a highlight, as was 9 Conduit Street, the in-house take on a full English. Smoothies and juices are served in glass milk cartons and where it’s at if you’re actually there before lunchtime, or try something from Pepijn van den Abeele’s drinks menu: formerly at the helm of The Connaught Bar, his cocktails have been created with day drinking in mind, including spritzes and Bloody Marys with vodka, tequila or gin that will all hit the spot.

Top Tip

Book in for a birthday – the location feels tucked away from the beaten path and seriously special.

Highlight

There’s a lot to take in, but don’t miss the self-playing pink LED piano providing the soundtrack on your way out.
