We’ve scaled the neon pink staircases of Frank’s, listened to Stravinsky recitals in car parks with Bold Tendencies and navigated the labyrinthine corridors of Corsica Studios. But it’s not just about partying somewhere obscure: for the city’s new warehouse spots, multi-purpose is the way to go.
The one to visit first? Peckham Levels arrives in South London’s favourite disused car park next month, renovating seven levels dedicated to creatives and grassroots culture on Rye Lane. Launching on the 8th December, Peckham Levels will provide 50 studio spaces for artists and entrepreneurs, bars, pop-up restaurants and a performance venue, alongside Franks, Bold Tenancies and Peckham Plex.
Five Miles is the new 450 capacity warehouse in Tottenham, competing for the accolade of best sound system in London. Combining a brewery, Middle Eastern street food from Torshi and espresso martinis on tap, it’s set to be more than a rave spot: the space will also be used as an incubator for small businesses. And Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section will be there for New Year’s Eve, so this space won’t stay under the radar for long.
Fresh from renovations, Wapping’s E1 warehouse will launch on New Year’s Eve with a mammoth 27-hour party. The former photography studios will host performances by multidisciplinary artists in separate events spaces, but it’s the sound system – custom built and the UK’s only Funktion 1 EVO6 – that’s caught our eye. With two huge warehouse spaces to fill, E1 could be on track to give Printworks a run for its money.
