Move over Berghain; Berlin might have been the place for day parties up until now, but a new wave of London clubs are starting in daylight and finishing by 10pm. It looks like midday is becoming a reasonable time to get the party started.
Just a year after they submitted their license with a 10pm curfew (to plenty of double takes), Printworks’ day parties regularly sell out in a few hours and it seems the 5,000 capacity mega-venue have started something. They’ve just released details of their Issue 002 season, and opened up a new balcony – go explore.
The Hydra’s new, stripped-back In Stereo series focuses on artists at the heart of alternative club culture. Their single-room set up (no clashes) hosts Theo Parrish, Daphni, Moodymann and Carl Craig, and they’re calling it a night at midnight, so you better be ready to party mid-afternoon.
And even Phonox – who are known for their all-nighters – are getting involved in these daytime affairs. Daniel Avery will do a mammoth ten hour set there next month – and instead of extending it to 6am the next morning, Phonox will open the doors mid-afternoon.
Fashionably late might have had its day. See you at lunchtime.
