Finding somewhere for a post-work drink on the Strand can be tricky, but we’ve found the perfect place for when Gordon’s is too crowded and you can’t face the tourists in Covent Garden. Yen specialises in upmarket Japanese dining (especially soba noodles – yum), but if you’re not in the mood to sit down, their gallery bar is the ideal space for sushi and cocktails. The interiors are impressive (high ceilings, light wood and classic Japanese panelling), and the bar sits on the second floor, overlooking the dining area and chef’s counter. We recommend trying one of the house specials from the ‘Zen Garden’ section of the menu: bright, fresh concoctions with a botanical edge. If you prefer something more straight up, their extensive list of Japanese whisky and shochu should see you through. Escape the hustle and bustle!
