Fried chicken may have come first, but now it seems eggs have cracked the market. And we’re not talking about your regular ‘with avo on toast’ kind either. Rather, a new wave of eggsperts (sorry…) are showing us the sunny side of breakfast, lunch and dinner
We first noticed the post-midday egg at Los Angeles’ Eggslut. Inspired by the ‘slutty’ eggs doing it all ways, we’ve since been snacking on pimped-out scotch eggs from Scotchtails and brunching at Yolk, a pop up serving six eggtastic dishes from classic Benedict recipes to not-so-classic haggis ones.
But things are getting serious now. Neil Rankin (of Islington’s Smokehouse) is egging us on at his new diner, Bad Egg. From spicy Morrocan and Malaysian sambal telur to Mexican huevos rancheros and Korean kimchi hash, it all sounds, well, eggcellent.
And news just in, Pop up The Good Egg has started a crowdfunding campaign for a soon-to-be restaurant in Stoke Newington. Headed up by ex-Ottolenghi chef Oded Mizrachi, expect classics from around the world (shakshukas, egg and aubergine pitas and even steak and chips) all washed down with craft beers and cocktails.
Sounds like a cracking good time!
