RISE AND SHINE

Now that Londoners have got brunch habits down pat (boozy, bottomless, all day, party – you name it we’ve got it), the capital is shifting some attention to breakfast. From early-morning burgers, pizzas and bacon filled doughnuts (take that cronut!) to breakfast burritos and tapas, London, it seems, is catching the worm.

We previously had to wait until 11am for the fried chicken and egg croissant waffle from Foxlow, but now Bird is giving us a 9am wake up call with its bacon filled doughnuts and skillets of baked jalapeno corn pudding topped with melted cheddar and eggs – all washed down with an all-day cocktail menu. If pizza is more your thing, good news: Pizza Buzz is set to open in spring with a 7am menu that includes a breakfast calzone filled with eggs, bacon, salmon and sausage.

Want a slice of Spain, pre- 10am? Try the huevos at the newly opened Tapas Revolution in Shoreditch. Go classic and order a tortilla Española or up the breakfast game and try the eggs with potatoes, onions and baby eels. Alternatively, Wahaca on Great Portland Street serves the best Mexican brekky this side of DF.

For those looking to get their buzz on pre-brunch, head to newly opened London Grind. Their latest outpost serves up antipodean-style breakfasts (poached eggs with quinoa and datterini tomatoes; eggs with spinach and pistachio) complete with boozy refreshments. Vinoteca’s selection of breakfast wines (from 8am) at the soon-to-open King’s Cross location also looks interesting. Think low alcohol moscatos and half bottles of champagne, paired with your morning meal.

Breakfast: the most important meal of the day? We finally agree.
