Left derelict for 40 years, the art deco cinema in Dalston you probably know as Efes or Epic is about to get a whole new look this autumn. Renovations are now underway to turn the space, the majority of which has been left unused for decades, into a brand new multi-disciplinary venue. And the first signs we’ve seen from the autumn programme are encouraging: Fatoumata Diawara, Marlon Williams, Stephen Malkmus, EFG London Jazz Festival, Jane Weaver and Mulatu Astatke will all be taking centre-stage (Lianne La Havas sold out in a flash), with more to be announced in the coming weeks – and as it’s all coming from the team behind Village Underground, we’re expecting big things – in scale and ambition.
