After 10 years in Borough, Elliot’s has gone back to east London, opening a new restaurant on Mare Street. Head here for natural wines and their excellent menu of innovative small plates and sourdough wood-fired pizzas.
SUCRE opened last week on Great Marlborough Street; it’s Latin American open-fire cooking with a bar downstairs aptly named ABAJO. We’ll be there for the scallop tiradito with jalapeno and horseradish, chicory with grapefruit and walnuts, monkfish with XO sauce and black fideuà with squid and paprika.
José Pizarro – a UJ fave; we love José on Bermondsey Street – is opening two restaurants in the Royal Academy this month. Poster Bar by José will be a casual tapas spot, while José Pizarro at the RA has an all-day menu in a relaxed but grand room – it is the RA after all.
BiBo Shoreditch, Dani García’s first UK restaurant, just opened in the new Mondrian Shoreditch (he is one busy man; he has another new restaurant at Nobu Ibiza Bay). With an open kitchen tapas bar, a central island bar, greenery and soft lighting, it aims to be a buzzy, fluid space.
And if you’re a fan of Brawn, they’ve just opened Sargasso in Margate. With a seasonal wine list, a menu that takes inspiration from Europe’s coastal cooking and music programming, all in an intimate raw space, it looks like a great, cosy seaside spot worth travelling for.
